Flip Chip and Radio
Flip Chip and Radio
Installed the flip chip about 3 weeks ago. I am very happy with the performance. I do have a dumb question however. I seem to have lost some of my radio reception after I put the flip chip in. Is this a coincidence or does the chip cause this effect. If it does cause this problem is there a way to put a sheild around the chip.
The chip is great and I suggest getting it.

Hi homehandyman,
Hmmm, I have been using the Flip Chip in all my vehicles, including my own 2001 F-150, and have never had any issue of a reduction in radio reception, etc.
If you like, you can try re-routing the lead, or simply pick up some shielded heat-shrink tubing if you like and put that over the entire lead as it exits the module just to experiment if you like. I have not done either with mine, as there is no effect on either AM or FM radio reception, volume, static level, etc., I have no effects at all with mine or in any customer vehicles we've installed them in.
To get to your point, we've never had a comlaint specifically of reduced radio reception, nor have we experienced that in any of our vehicles. That is not something that is any kind of common result, and we don't see any pattern of that in the posts here on F-150 Online.
We did have a few people a few years ago who said they felt like they were getting a little bit more static on their AM radio reception, this was 2-3 years ago, and since I listen to a lot of AM talk radio, that's something I can't stand. But then, I've hever had that effect. Superchips did change the switches used on the Flip Chip to reduce any possibility of increased static from the switch itself a few years ago, so you already have that.
Given the weather conditions across much of the country of late, it may just be weather-related, but by all means feel free to experiment with some aluminum foil, or shielding the lead, etc.
Good luck!

Install some RF chokers on the cable coming from the switch to the computer, it will shield any RF noise. Had to do that to mine tonight and it really works. You can get them at Radio Shack, Fry's Electronics, anywhere that carries audio equipment.
