Mike: FT valve body and Superchip= FIRM shifts
Mike: FT valve body and Superchip= FIRM shifts
Mike,
I've got a "Factory Tech" valve body and Superchip in my '99 F250LD. I've had this combo in for almost 4 months now. During normal driving the shifting is perfect; quick and firm. But during WOT, the 1-2 is very HARD. The truck jerks when it shifts.
Can this cause serious damage with the truck bucking forward like that? I know about the increased line pressure with the valves, but I wanted to know what your opinion on this? Would my best alternative be returning the chip to you and having the shifts detuned?
There's a few Lightning owners who have their chip's shifts detuned with the FT valve body but some others like it that way.
Thanks.

Nice to see you here again!
No problem as long as you're giving it some gas when it shifts; if it shifts *really* hard while you take your foot off the gas, which would only happen in rare situaitons (such as accelerating hard and then having to come off the throttle near the upshift to avoid something, etc.) , then it could potentially be hard on the u-joints, but usually it's not a problem.
Yes, almost all of our Lightning & 2002 HD model customers who are using both the Factory Tech valve body and the Superchip have had us back off those shifts, so we can easily do that for you. They usually complain that it's the light-throttle shifts that they cannot tolerate, they usually like the banging shifts @ WOT, but to each his/her own, of course!
In general, it doesn't automatically hurt the transmission to hit the gears hard when it's done "right" like that, by the combination of the Superchip to take care of the program issues and the valve body to take care of opening up passages & orifices to allow the flow of more fluid *volume*. The only thing I would be careful of is not allowing a high-rpm hard shift by taking your foot off the throttle suddenly during hard acceleration near the upshift point.
It's primarily a matter of your comfort level, basically, so if you'd like to have us back those down for you, that can certainly be done, just give us a shout!

I was alittle worried about any long term damage to the tranny. You answered all my questions. Thanks again.
