Mike-

I am going to call you, so don't bother going in-depth with this answer, but just so I don't forget....here is my Question.. Do you know what type of Transmission I have on a 1998 lincoln navigator?

I was looking at www.Truckperformance.com and Found some Shift improvement Kits.
Just wondering what you thought of the

1) Jet performance Combination Electrical/Mechanical Shift iimprovement kit with Shift setting control switch?

And

2) Simple Transgo Mechanical Shift.

I know you said that electrical Shift improvement wasn't necassarily a smart Idea due to the wires or whatever it was you said, but with the Jet product, you can switch between different settings.. So just driving around, the stock setting, with the Mechanical improvment still helping, but if I get up to the line against a Corvette... err I mean..... SUV of some sort.. and want to race it.. Then just flip the switch to maximum shifts.. . Either that or the Transgo shift kit? Well anyways LIKE i said.. I am going to CALL you, so don't go IN Depth.. just say which you'd prefer...

When would be a good time to call you??

Jon

Hi Jon,

First, we carry the Transgo shift kits here as well, so we can supply all of that stuff for you, no problem, just in case you might not be aware of that.

Second, no, I would *never* use any electronic shift improver, not the B&M piece, not the Jet piece, all of them do the same basic thing, splice into the ECU wiring harness to spike the voltage signal being sent to the shift solenoids, and that isn't a good thing to do. That's why most of them having warnings in their documentation not to use them for long on the highest setting, for example, we don't like to see them used at all. Some of them also do other things, but all in all, forget the electronic shift improvers.

The smart thing to do is to use the Superchip for at least a month befrore deciding that you want to do any transmission modifications, as the Superchip already cleans up and firms up the shifting in those automatics very nicely, to the pont that the vast majority do not go on to do shift kits, etc., they're happy with what the Superchip does for the transmission's shift characteristics.

You can call me anytime, our hours are Monday thru Friday from 10am to 7pm, Eastern time. The only time you will have a hard time reaching me is usually from about 3:30 to about 5:30 each afternoon, when we're in production, much of the time between those hours I'll be tied up with production & tuning. Don't worry about that too much though, you call us anytime, and if I'm not available at that particular moment, I'll call you back as soon as I can so we can communicate.

This next week, I do have to go out of town for about a day and a half, I'll be leaving Tuesday roughly midday and will be up in New Jersey until Thursday. Normally I'm here most days, but this week we're on-site at one of our manufacturers facilities checking out, seeing more new products, etc., so I'll be out of pocket a bit, but even during that time I'll be available by cell phone for the most part, so we shouldn't have a problem hooking up.
