Hey Mike, mods in got a question
Basically I purchased a flip chip, airforce one air box, line valve mod & pan, bypass valve and breather.
My question is should I have gotten some instructions from airforce one? Like what to do with the little sensor that plugs into the old airbox? Do I oil the huge blue conical filter? what is the little screw on the smaller clamp for, where does it go? etc. These California guys!
Next, after the chip install...WOW what a difference. However I'm hearing some pinging, this concerns me. Also I exceeded the redline on the motor, should this happen? I did not hit the limiter but it still concerns me. This was all on 93 octane and on position home (#1) on the switch.
Is this something I'll have to watch and control and just let up when it gets near the redline?

Hi FlyingTexan,
1.) The WOT upshift point in the Superchip is plenty safe, it's 5400 rpm in the Lightning, which is 150 rpm over the stock 5250 rpm WOT upshift point, BUT, that is still well below the Lightning's factory stock rev limiter, so you have no concerns whatsoever there. Also, we've seen Lightning factory tachs indicate in excess of 6000 rpm at only 5400 rpm, and vice-versa (some high and some low, too), some of them are *way* off, especially when accelerating @ WOT in 1st gear. So you may or may not be getting an accurate indication on your tach, but in any case, your WOT upshift point is fine.
2.) If you need instructions for the new AF1 Lightning kit, sure, we can get them right to you, or you can call Air Foce One directly. Please just give us a quick call and we'll be happy to mail or even FAX them out to you ASAP! You can email us as well, but that will take a coupla days to get a response in email, and we'd like to serve you quicker than that if possible. AF1 was in such a rush to get the new Lightning kits out (we've been hounding them for over a year on this kit, poor guys!) that they shipped a few kits without documentation by mistake. We saw this when our kits hit here and immediately called them to get the exact step-by-step instructions, which we immediately wrote up and can now make them available to any of our customers ASAP!
With regard to any pinging you are hearing, you should have already called us about that, as your documentation instructs. You shouldn't be hearing *any* kind of pinging on any good quality premium gas, so something isn't right, and given the extremely large number of Lightnings we have running all over the country with that exact same configuration and tuning, most likely it's poor fuel quality. Tech Support cannot be handled here, as your Performance Products Superchip documentation points out very clearly, it tells you *exactly* what to do if you have any kind of problem related to the Superchip. You need to follow your Performance Products instructions that came with your Superchip, which instruct you to CALL US IMMEDIATELY if you have any problem with your Superchip. It also specifically instructs you to NOT report that kind of problem to us by posting it here, as that kind of problem obviously cannot ever be solved on a message board, in addition to the fact that the policies of F-150 Online clearly require that matters that are of a nature that is between vendor and customer are to be communciated privately, off these message boards.
Please, follow your documentation and call us NOW, as well as pulling that Superchip before you drive that vehicle another mile. Otherwise we cannot help you, and you could end up with engine damage by continuing to operate an engine that is detonating in a worst case scenario.
Talk to you soon,
