Dealer says my chip screwed the tranny
Well I took my truck in to get the tranny fixed for the second time. The first time without a chip, and the second time for the same problem. between the first and second time i had a superchip installed. I took it out before i sent it there. A week later they say they fix the tranny but the computer is broke because of the chip. They guys says its now 575$ to replace the computer :| Does anyone have a magic stick to wave so everything will be better?

well i'm geting a new ecu for 575$
I think there was a problem with it before i installed the chip, but they said that cant be confermed so the warrenty is voided on it. Now the questin is do i get my superchip reprogrammed for the new ECU becuase the odds of having the same model is unlikely and install it again. I wounder if someone could cut me a deal seeing how i've only had it for 4 months. hint...hint.... Or do i just say screw it just in case i go though it again?

P.S playing 575$ for something that i shouldnt have to pay really(insert negitive word here).

I am somewhat unclear. If you took the truck to the dealer for tranny problems, then returned home and installed a Superchip, but before you returned to the dealer for additional tranny problems, you removed the Superchip, why in blazes would the dealer think that some computer chip 'wrecked' the ECU / tranny.
Why would the dealer even think you knew what a chip was?
This is a good reason why Superchip decals belong only on one's toolbox not on one's truck.
I think the dealer is trying to screw you out of $575.
I would definately keep old ECU to get a second opinion on what is wrong with it, and then call whoever sold you the Superchip for some advice.
If you bought chip from Mike, I know he cautions us against having chip in truck when taking it to the dealer while under warranty, but he may be able to help you.

Hi FlaminMoe,
First, I would NEVER pay any dealer anything even close to $575 to replace the powertrain computer, as the full RETAIL price of the powertrain computer with no discount at all is only $288 and change to begin with! UYearts ago they used to be $1000 and more, and there are soem dealers charging anything from $300 to as much as $800 and even more to replace the computer, especially if they think they have a "live one" on their hands, but the full list price isn't even $300! If you really do *have* to have a new computer, you need a much better price, in that case just call us and we'll supply it to you for far less than what they're charging.
In addition, it is not possible for a properly installed Superchip to damage your automatic transmission, nor has that ever happened even once to any customer of ours here at Performance Products over the past decade+.
Transmissions, computers, and every other part on these trucks can, will, and do fail from time to time, so it is possible that you have a real problem, but it wasn't caused by the Superchip.
It sounds to me like you need to get your vehicle away from that dealer and get it to another Ford dealership that isn't quite so anxious to point fingers and charge you double for replacement parts, *that's* the first and most obvious problem here, in addition to whatever else may be going on.
Additionally, Superchips can very easily test that ECU to determine if the Superchip could have actually had anything to do with it's failure, assuming that is has actually failed to begin with.
First these people try to claim that the Superchip was supposed to have damaged the transmission, now it's supposed to have damaged your ECU? What will they claim next, it caused your gas tank to leak, your brakes to warp the rotors, the stereo stop working and your tires to go flat too??
The first thing you need to do, and RIGHT NOW, is to pick up the phone and call Superchips directly at the phone number that is on your Superchips documentation.
Also, Peddler1000 makes a very valid point, how could they possibly have known you even owned a Superchip at all, let alone used it in this vehicle unless you took the vehicle in there with the Superchip still attached, or you told them it was there?
By the way, as is clearly pointed out in our Performance Products documentation that is sent with every Superchip we ship here at Performance Products, we recommend removing the Superchip prior to going in for service, and it has absolutely NOTHING to do with whether you are under warranty or not. We say to pull the Superchip prior to service whether you are under warranty or not in case they need to do diagnostics or troubleshooting, you always want the ECU in stock trim for any troubleshooting or diagnostics. If they retrieve DTC's either with the Superchip in place or after removing the Superchip but not fully clearing the ECU, then they can get a list of **false** error codes the length of your arm and think any of a number of things has failed. Removing the Superchip and clearing the ECU prior to service as we go over thoroughly in our documentation precludes that from happening.
Give Superchips a call about this directly, and don't delay, do it RIGHT NOW, call them at the number that was included in your Superchips documentation that came with your Superchip, if it was purchased new, & good luck!

my consern now is that i told them to replace it. I need my truck for work and have been with out it for over a week now. Now I'm going to get the old ECU from them. Now if the superchip people can test it and they say its not the chip. What can i do then? Can that stand up against the dealer? I should have gotten it done from another dealer. I'm freinds with the GM of another dealer from across town. Sometimes i just want to kick myself.
I am about to install new superchip in my 99 xlt with automatic tranny today, and as in the same position I have a tranny problem now, it has a hard lurching shift into 2nd gear, will the superchip aggravate this problem, and if so how difficult will it be to remove the superchip on the side of the highway before roadside assistance gets to me?My Truck
If it is a 99 isn't it still under warranty? Make Ford fix it if it is then put the chip in. I was worried about the shifting with the Superchip because everyone kept talking about snapping their heads back when they hit the gas after chip installation. This is not true, there is no head snapping. Even when you floor it, there is a hard shift but nothing even I am worried about and I dont like hard shifts and such.
Hi Unlawful,
The answer is, you should not do *any* kind of modification to that vehicle until it is in proper mechanical health. So we recommend getting your transmission fixed, and *then* do your modifications.
The Superchip is not going to damage your transmission or anything else, but you don't want to do *any* kind of modifications to that vehicle until you have your present problems repaired and the vehicle is running & shifting correctly.
Don't delay, go get that taken care of RIGHT NOW, so that you don't have any more damage done from driving it like that. You want to avoid, if you can, a situation where it gets worse and worse the more you drive it (whether you notice it or not) and becomes a $2500 transmission replacement repair bill instead of getting it in sooner when it's potentially a much cheaper repair.
Good luck & let us know what you find with that tranny!

Unlawful....
I had a hard shift condition between 1st and 2nd just after i bought my truck new. I put it off for a while, but finally took it in. The dealer kept it, gave me a Taurus to drive and said it should not be driven any more until it is fixed. I think it was a pump or a piston of some kind in the tranny. Driving it like that could cause some damage, I think, from the conversation I had with the Service manager.
You need to get it to the service dept. post haste in my opinion before more damage is done.
Just for your information, I had tranny rebuilt 3 times and finally replaced all together. And got a free ESP because of all the problems I had with it.
Mine is 99 model also.
Good luck.
