Superchip with existing shift improver?

I currently have one of the jet electric shift improver things to firm up the shifts. I have been considering a superchip or a diablo (not sure which one, I have heard only good about each one...any suggestions??). My question is this: Since either chip will firm up shifts, should I continue to use the jet shift improver or get rid of it totally?

thanks
Matt

Hi Matt,

You can use the Superchip in conjunction with that electronic shift improver.

However, we suggest that you remove that electronic shift improver altogether, whether you use the Superchip or not, because most of those devices simply splice into the ECU harness to spike the voltage going to the shift solenoids, which wears the solenoids. In fact, every one we've seen actually has a warning in the documentation not to use it on the highest setting for long periods, due to this same issue, though they don't go into details about the shift solenoids.

If you want more power, the Superchip does the best job hands down, and unlike the Diablo, is also 50-state emissions certified, something that is very important to most people. The Superchip will also clean up the shift characteristics quite a bit as well.

If you want the transmision to shift hard enough to spin the tires on the 1-2 WOT upshift, that is best and most safely accomplished with a combination of the Superchip to take care of the program issues, and a good shift kit (we recommend & carry the Transgo shift kits) to make the transmission physically capable of flowing enough fluid volume to deliver hard shifts.

To directly answer your last question, we woud recommend removing the electronic shift improver and using the Superchip by itself for about a month, so you can see how it shifts with just that. And if you want harder shifts than what the Superchip alone delivers, then at that point install a shift kit. That way you will have done a nice thorough job, with the Superchip taking care of the program issues & the shift kit taking care of the mechanical issues, ending up with fast hard shifts, if that is what you want.

Please feel free to give us a call if you'd like to go over this in more detail!
