Need info. on chip options Mike?
Need info. on chip options Mike?
Hi Mike,
I'm a new member who thinks this site rocks!
I was curious to know what program options are available considering the mods I have? Will there be a need for custom tunning with additional cost to me because I have an aftermaket MAF? I would also say I'm close to purchasing a Superchip but, would request to speak with you and have all my questions addressed.
I work for a microchip manufacturer and have concerns about reliability etc. for your superchip? Do you offer a warranty and if so how long?

Hi 12gofast,
Welcome to F-150 Online!
We understand youyr concern for reliability, and the Superchip is backed by a Lifetime warranty, so you're well covered there. Failure rates are extremely low, but it's nice to know you have a Lifetime warranty just in case.
With regard to when you need custom programming/tuning done, the installation of an aftermarket MAF (mass airflow meter) is one of those times. In general, things like changing the MAF, and then obvious things such as supercharging, nitrous oxide, ported cylinder heads, camshaft changes, gear ratio and/or tire size changes in 1999 and newer models, etc. are generally the types of modifications that will require custom programming/tuning in these 1997 & up F-150 vehicles. Headers should also be compensated for, thought it's not always an absolute must, it should be done to maximum the power gain and optimize A/F ratios when headers are used along with other mods like the Superchip, an intake kit and a cat-back exhaust. In that configuration headers can cause the sytem to go leaner than it can compensate for, and you do't get all the power you should.
Things like low-restriction air filters, airbox elimination kits (Air Force One, K&N FIPK, etc.), cat-back exhaust systems, underdrive pulleys and converting to electric cooling fan(s) will all work just fine with the "standard" Superchips performance program for each vehicle's computer code.
With regard to "program options," that's really more a matter of tuning the vehicle correctly for it's modifications, if it has modifications that affect the tuning or the powertrain program. There are different things we can do to improve performance even further for those who want an all-out type of performance program, we'll usually use the 2-program Superchip Flip CHip for those setups, say, a street performance program on one side and then a "drag race" type of program on the other side, etc.
There are all kinds of different situations & needs, so the best thing to do is to give us a call so we can go over all of this in detail with you to see just what will be most appropriate for your mods, how you use your vehicle and where you want your performance to be. Most people use our "standard" performance program or have those same basic features in their custom programs, as we're already doing just about everything that can be done in the powertrain program to improve performance wihtout compromising durability or reliability or suitability for purpose of these vehicles. If somethign different is desired, that's easily done.
We'll be happy to go over this with you in detail if you'd like to give us a call, our contact info is just below.
Glad to see you're enjoying F-150 Online, we hope you'll hang out here with us in your spare time!
