Chip in a screw
Chip in a screw
I want to get more out of my 2001 screw. I have the 5.4 and have put in a K&N filter and felt a little difference. I have seen many poepl in the screw board say get a chip. I don't know anything about a chip and what it will do for my truck so I am looking for some advice and tips. I want more power and HP but not lose out on the torque and mpg. WOuld this all be possible by adding a chip and if so what kind and how much is it going to cost me. Also I was wondering if this something I can do myself?
Hi redkona,
What the Superchip will do for your vehicle is give it about 10% more horsepower and about 13% more torque, roughly. The maximum potential gain from the Superchip for the 5.4 motor is 28 horsepower & 46 lbs./ft. of torque. In round numbers, we refer to it as a 10% power gainer, basically, as that is what your vehicle will feel like from installing the Superchip, like it has about 10% more motor under the hood.
The Superchip will also clean up the slow & sloppy shift characteristics of the automatic transmission, and remove the top speed limiter as well.
The Superchip retunes your engine specifically for the use of premium gasoline, that is how the majority of the power gain is made. And for those who want to be able to use 87 octane gas, we also have a version of the Superchip called the Flip Chip that has 2 performance programs, one for premium gas and another for 87 octane, with smaller power gains. It has a simple toggle switch to facilitate changing the program selection.
With the Superchip installed, you will have more horsepower and more torque available *all* the time, at any throttle position, and at any rpm, so you don't have to worry about losing any torque anywhere, the effect will be just the opposite. The Superchip is also 50-state emissions certified.
Yes, you can install the Superchip yourself in about 30-40 minutes, it's easy enough to install that 98% of our customers install it themselves. Our Performance Products documentation is very thorough, written to take the first time installer thru this with no surprises.
With regard to cost, it is against the policies of F-150 Online to discuss pricing issues here on the message boards, but you can get a look at that cost by clicking on the link just below in our signature line that will take you to our Performance Products F-150 Online Superchip ordering system, and then you can see that info immediately.
The cost also includes a Lifetime warranty.
The Superchip is compatible with other bolt-on modifications such as K&N air filters, airbox elimination kits (like the Air Force One, FIPK, Airaid, etc.), cat-back exhaust systems, underdrive pulleys and electric fan conversions in these vehicles. If you do more involved mods, like changing the MAF (mass airflow meter), headers, a supercharger, nitrous oxide, ported heads, gear ratio changes, etc., then you would need custom programing/tuning, and we can handle all of that as well. The Superchip can always be updated later on with any custom changes you need should you decide to do more modifications later on that would affect the Superchip's tuning.
That pretty much covers all the basics, and if you'd like to go over any of this or anything else preformance-related about your vehicle, please give us a call, our contact info is listed below.
Good luck with your SuperCrew!
