chip installation ???

Been thinking about getting a superchip.
My question is how easy is the installation and what does it actually entail?
I really have no clue so before I take the plunge I'd like some idea as to what's involved.
Thanks a bunch!!

very very easy. no skill or previouse knowledge required. very detailed instructions. all you have to do is disconnect batter/remove computer/ clean contacts/put in chip/put back computer/reconnect battery....and you are up and running. the instructions are the most detailed set i have every come upon for anytime of installation. i was very impressed. don't worry, even if you do not understand or if something goes wrong you have everyone on this board to help you!! good luck.

Welcome to the boards!
The Superchip install is pretty easy. If you have turned wrenches a couple times in your life you'll be OK.
I will let someone else explain the details because I have a tendency to write a novel trying to explain.
It is probably one of the easiest mods to do.
I think one thing that would be good to do before purchasing a Superchip would be to check out previous posts. There is a ton of really good imformation here. It might take a bit of digging but it's worth it.
You have definitley come to the right place!

Hi bosro,

The installation of the Superchip is easy enough that just over 98% of our customers do it themselves.

The manufacturer's instructions are OK, though a bit sparse. We write supplental documentation that we send out with every Superchip we ship for these vehicles here at Performance Products, which is very thorough. Our additional documentation is written to take the first-time installer thru this with no surprises. We go over everything from where to find the ECU to how to prepare your vehicle for a service visit and much more.

Briefly, the Superchip has a female slot on the back of it, and that female slot simply mates to the corresponding male connector on the back of the Ford computer, so it's literally a Tab A into Slot B kinda deal, so to speak. Before you do that, you have to clean that connector, and once that is done, you just plug the Superchip in, reinstall the computer and go have fun!

Figure that it will take a first timer about 30-45 minutes to do the installation once you've read the documentation, on average.

If you would like to go over this in more detail, pelase feel free to give us a call, our contact info is just below.

Good luck with your truck, & we hope you'll hang out here with us in your spare time!
