Unhappy Superchip problems........Mike?

I removed my chip this winter, and went to re-install it today. I disconnected the battery, turned the lights on to discharge the system, waited for about 5 minutes, installed the chip, reconnected the battery, and the truck will not start. And whten I turn the key to the first "click", there is a relay in the fuse box under the hood that is oscillating like crazy.

Does anyone have any ideas? I tried it 3 times with the same results. I cleaned off the contacts again just to be sure. Truck starts and runs fine without the chip in.

Mike, do you have any ideas? Will it cost me anything to send it to you to have it checked out? I have the FOU1 program if that helps any.

Thanks,
Jeff

Hi Jeff,

Hmm, sounds like maybe you've had your ECU reflashed at a dealership during a service visit over the winter, perhaps. That would cause a no-start, as you would no longer have a code match. If the vehicle has been in for service since you removed the Superchip last Fall, this is the most likely culprit.

It is possible for the Superchip to fail, but not probable, as the failure rate is extremely low, a small fraction of a percent among the Superchips that we ship.

If the vehicle has not been serviced since you removed the Superchip last Fall, then more likely you simply have a connection-related issue, with that solenoid or relay clicking away under the hood like that. In that case, you'll need to remove that ECU again, and make sure to pull both the top and bottom covers off of the ECU (no exceptions!), and reclean that connector properly. Not just the contacts, make sure to remove all conformal coating, 100% of it, from every bit of surface area on the connector that is covered by the slot on the Superchip when the Superchip is pushed all the way on to the connector. (Whew, that was a mouthful!) You will also need to clean out the slot on the back of the Superchip, as conformal coating will transfer over into that slot if the Superchip is ever installed without 100% of that conformal coating being removed from the connector.

What I would really suggest you do before anything else is to give us a call. Let's go over a few things over the phone, and see if we can troubleshoot this for you. If we need to physcially check & test your Superchip, of course we can do that as well, but give us a call first, and let's go over some troubleshooting basics "by the numbers," so to speak.

It's going to be something simple most likely, it almost always is a simple issue with a straightforward solution, so grab out phone number listed below & give us a shout, ok?

Don't worry, this shouldn't be tough to get you back up & running!
