Which Computer chip and intake to buy
Which Computer chip and intake to buy
With so many different styles out there i just want to get an opinion on what chip is best. Superchip or Jet's. Really curious to know which one will get me the most bang for my buck. I have a 2002 f150 supercrew with the 5.4L. Im looking to make some modifications in the near future so any information would be helpful.
Also wanted to get the low down on what would be the best intake the Air Force 1, Air Raid or K&N.
Thanks
Joey

I have the Superchip and I am VERY happy with the performance gains. I drive a 2002 SCrew KR. I also have a K&N FIPK which I am also very happy with. As far as the other FIPK's go, it is just a matter of what looks better to you. They all have very similiar performance gains.
I am also looking into getting a different exhaust which will help as well.

I know this has probably been mentioned in past threads, but I'm pretty new to the site, so here's my question.
Wouldn't addding a chip take the truck out of warranty?
I would think that if you are programming the engine for other than factory settings this might void the warranty.
I have the same question about the air intake and output mods.
They all seem to be worthwhile mods but I'd hate to void the warranty.

i was concerned about my warranty as well when i installed a chip/FIPK/exhaust. it has been discussed many times and with a short search you should be able to find the info you are looking for.
from personal experiance i would recomend a superchip and AF-1 combo. i have both and found them to be great mods. just my .02. good luck with your investment!!

Hi jgslider,

The Superchip is hands down the best performance chip on the market, as it's the only one that tunes each vehicle individually according to the exact software revision in it's powertrain computer, tunes the engine to add power all the time at any throttle position, and is still 50-state emissions certified, no other chipmaker does all of that. If someoen else had a better product, we'd be selling them instead, as we don't care about the name on the box, we care about the *results*.
Jet chips tend to give little power gain, most people here who have used them call them paperweights. They tune the engine for more power only during open-loop operation, which means the only time there is potential for power gain is at extremely heavy throttle, and they are generic, so you don't get a program made for your specific vehicle. Actually, that is exactly how most chipmakers operate, because it's far cheaper for them to do it like that, but it yields a poor optimization of the powertrain program with small power gains and even those only under limited circumstances.
With regard to the same question on the various airbox elimination kits, the Air Force One is showing the largest power gains. For example, on the 5.4 F-150, 17.9 HP for the AF1, versus 14 HP for either the Airaid or K&N's FIPK kit. Also, the AF1 uses the highest quality materials, aircraft-grade T-304 stainless steel that is then hand-polishd to a mirror finish.
If you'd like to go over these and/or any other performance related questions, etc. please feel free to give us a call & we'll be happy to cover all of that in detail with you, so you can give it some thought in making your decisions.

Hi Iwao,
There is no "official word from Superchips," nor should there be, as this is a matter of *law*, not a matter of policy of any company.
Your new vehicle warranty cannot be voided just because aftermarket parts have been installed, whether they are replacement, appearance or performance in nature. The only way a warranty claim may be legally denied over the use of any aftermarket part is if the automaker can prove that the aftermarket part was the direct cause of a failure, and they must further prove that had the aftermarket part not been installed, the related failure would not have occurred, and that is extremely strong legal protection.
The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act makes it illegal to deny a warranty claim over the use of aftermarket parts, and it doesn't matter what anyone says or claims, either at a dealership or anywhere else, it's the *law* that governs this.
However, Magnuson-Moss is not one-sided, it works both ways.........if you do something to your vehicle that actually *damages* it, then it's not fair to expect the automaker to pay for that, and that is also provided for in Magnuson-Moss, it's a nice set of fair-play rules that protects both parties.
You can find more info here, and many other places on the Internet........
