Hi BRANRULZ,

Well, that depends to a certain extent on your level of modifications, or your intended modifications, as well as how you use the vehicle.

If you're going to be doing the "typical" bolt-ons, things like an intake kit (Air Force One, etc.) and perhaps a cat-back exhaust system, underdrive pulleys, electric fans, etc. you can use the single program Superchip. It can also be updated in the future if you decide later on to do more involved modifications that would affect the powertrain program.

If you are going to do more serious modifications immediately, like ported heads, camshaft changes, maybe a supercharger, gear ratio changes, etc., then you'll be better off with our 2-program Superchip Flip Chip, as it's price includes any custom programming needed at time of purchase, and you get 2 programs instead of 1. That way is you can do things like have say, a towing/performance combination, or a street/strip performance setup, or for those who want to be able to run on 87 octane or premium gas at the flip of the switch, etc.

In terms of which *brand* of chip to go with, hands down it's the Superchip, as it's the only chip that tunes each vehicle individually according to the exact software revision in it's powertrain computer, tunes the engine to add power *all* the time at any throttle position, and is also 50-state emissions certified, no other chipmaker has all of that. I don't know if you may have spent time here before registering to be abel to post, but if you spend some time reading these boards, you'll quickly see why almost everyone here uses the Superchip. The bottom line is, we don't care about the name on the box, what we care about are the results, and that is why we recommend the Superchip and use it ourselves in all our vehicles, as it delivers the best results.

If you'd like to go over this in more detail, or perhaps talk a bit about your truck & how far you want to take it, or maybe to get a good plan for improving performance at the lowest possible cost, etc., we're happy to go over all of that with you so you can give all of this some thought in making your decisions, please feel free to give us a call when you get a chance.

Your 4.2 V-6 5-speed F-150 has plenty of good performance potential, it's always nice seeing another V-6 owner improving their truck!

Spend some time reading these message boards and you'll find plenty of information about the Superchip right here on F-150 Online. You can also give us a call, and we'll be happy to go over anything you'd like.

In terms of what kind of power gains, etc., on the 4.2 V-6 F-150, maximum gains are 25 hp & 31 lbs./ft. of torque. In round numbers, think of the Superchip as a 10%-12% power gainer.

For detailed info, just give us a call & we'll be happy to go over anything with you.
