Mike Troyer expertise needed (again)

Note to Webmaster: Sorry this is off topic, however, in one way it is not, since I am researching other items to complement the Superchip...... Yeah, okay that is b.s., sorry, I just needed to ask Mike several questions since no one commented when posted in several other categories.

Mike,

Sorry to keep imposing but, in my aftermarket exhaust thread, "Magnaflow vs. JBA", in which I was asking for comments on what catback and header combo produces the most hp/tq gains, since I recently saw an ad that showed the JBA catback producing more than the Magnaflow (was 99% sure that I was going to get the magnaflow single 3inch stock exit system), a member posted that you had recommended the Jardine catback because it produced the most hp/tq. However, in my thread, "Mike Troyer Superlist needed" you recommended the magnaflow catback as producing the most hp/tq. (I have a 99' 4.6L) Which catback have you found to produce the most hp/tq?

Also, if possible, could you comment on the following question. I have not been able to find any source that can answer it.

My 99' F-150 along with all other late model F-150's including the Lighnting have a 14.0:1 ratio steering gear box. I do not know if it is variable or constant ratio.

I want to change the 14.0:1 ratio to a 12._:1 constant ratio. I know that Nascar Fords have the 12 to 1 constant ratio steering gear box, but where can I get a kit or complete steering gear box that will fit my F-150? Or even better yet, is there an existing vehicle steering box that has the a 12._:1 constant ratio that will bolt on and replace my stock steering gear box? Any lead is greatly appreciated.

In my first car(back in 85'), a 1979 Trans Am 6.6L a.k.a. "Last of the muscle cars", I had the 12 to 1 constant ratio steering gear box. Best steering vehicle I have ever driven. I need the same gear ratio in my 99' F-150. Thanks.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot to state that I try to make a habit of "clicking on" any vendor advertisement shown on F150online every time I come to the site, so that, F150online gets credit for it. Plus, I do check out their items for sale.

Hi Iron Horse,

Sorry my friend, but here is where I have to draw the line, so to speak, and say that you'll need to call us.

In addition to being off topic of what is appropriate for this section, in general, anytime you want to go over anything detailed, or have several questions, etc., you need to call us for that, it's just not appropriate here. Trying to properly explain anything detailed via the written word is too time-consuming, we can get more done in a 5 minute phone call that we can typing for an hour. Thanks in advance for your understanding.

Briefly.............

Don't be too impressed with ads.........................we're not here to explain what various manufacturers claim, though we do share a lot of information that comes from our experience, that's just not something we have either the time or the inclination to do. What gets claimed in ads is one thing, and reality is many times another. In addition, you're never going to get exactly the same dyno results twice in a row, even back to back on the same chassis dyno. Nothing printed in any ad changes our feeling that Magnaflow is doing the best job of flow engineering with these vehicles for cat-back exhaust systems. That having been said, we've never had a direct comparison between the JBA cat-back and the Magnaflow behind a set of JBA headers. Forget getting hung up on maximum hp gain claims, what matters in these heavy trucks is not just peak HP @ 5000 rpm, but far more important on a day to day basis is *torque*.

Steering boxes we don't generally change, we don't have many road-course F-150's other than a few Lightnings.

Mike T.

Thanks for taking the time and effort to respond. Sorry, I knew that I was imposing but ....just had to ask. You are by far the most customer orientated vendor of anything, I have ever seen. To provide so much valuable knowledge before any sale is even comtemplated or made, shows evidence of a high level of integrity on your part and a lack thereof on my part. Thanks again and next time, I will write down my list of technical questions and call your organization as you advised...and of course, buy something. ha!
