questions re:chips & 5.8l
I've known about chips for various engines for years but never paid much attention to them. Now I have a 94 F150 4x4 5.8l w/speed density. I've put a drop-in K&N w/bored out airbox and the truck came with a cheap turbo muffler si/so w/Y to dual pipes. I hope to replace the exhaust soon as it is rusting. I have a couple questions regarding chips. Most of the posts I see here are for 4.2/4.6/5.4 engines. I would like to know a few things:
1- What hp & tq gains can I get for my 5.8l w/superchip? I prefer sub-3000 rpm range for towing & 4wheeling.
2- What will the flip chip get me? With the high octane program will it produce the same results as the no-flip chip?
3- What about with the magnaflow exhaust? How does it compare with the Gibsons?
Thanks!

Hi drm7,
By now, we have already gone over all of this by phone when you called us yesterday.
One point I don't remember us going over, however, is your question regarding the program in our dual octane Flip Chip. The program on Side 2 in our dual octane configuration in the Flip Chip (which in this case is the performance program for premium gas), is indeed the same program you would get in the single program Superchip, to answer that specific question.
Just to cover this for anyone else with the same vehicle who may read this post....................
1.) 18-22 HP & 34-38 lbs./ft. of torque, depending on the stock rating of your 5.8, as there were several versions. In your '94 F-150, you most likely have the 200 hp version rather than the 180 hp version, as it's usually the older 5.8's that have the 180 hp rating.
2.) The Flip Chip includes the cost of any custom programming needed at time of purchase, which is why many people use it as that gives them a cheaper way to get custom programming for major modifications, etc. The Flip Chip can also allow things like a dual octane capability, so you wouldn't have to run on premium gas all the time. In your specific case, you'll get the same performance results with the Side 2 program in the dual octane configuration Flip Chip as you would with the standard single program Superchip.
3.) Magnaflow doesn't make a cat-back system for the pre-1997 F-150's, so there wouldn't be a direct comparison for your vehicle, however, in the 1997 & up F-150's, the Magnaflow produces significantly larger horsepower gains, and produces better results in torque as well.
Thanks for calling, by the way, I enjoyed speaking with you yesterday, & good luck with your truck!
