Super chip in my truck ?
I am thinking off adding some kind of chip to my 1999 F-350 powerstroke but am curious if anyone has done this? I am hearing great power gains very quickly and gas mileage improving greatly ( true or false ) which chip would you use ? My friend is telling me he is getting 25 to 26 MPG after chip install verses stock of 20 MPG

Hi SZAM,
It is hard to believe, isn't it? To get very large power gains, *and* the potential for significantly better mpg as well, is something that everyone wants, and exactly what we provide for the PSD owner.
The Superchip has the best combination of large power gains, low EGT's (exhaust gas temperatures) and a clean exhaust, in fact, we have 50-state emissions certifications as well.
Though this is not something that was deliberately designed into the product for this purpose, the Superchip tuning for these PSD's has shown the largest mpg gains as well.
The mpg gains are just a byproduct of the tuning, it was not something that was deliberately designed in for that purpose, there really is no such thing as a "gas mileage chip," per se, and the mpg gains happen primarily when the motor is under a load. In other words, driving it around town you aren't going to see a significant improvement in mpg, it's when the vehicle is either towing, or is being driven at freeway speeds, enough to put load from aero drag on the motor. For example, we have a lot of F-350 "duallys" that when cruising empty at 80 mph, pick up 4-5 more mpg. Mpg gains when towing are less, usually about 2-3 or so depending on speed & load. Superchips hired an independant test lab out in California to test this tuning and tell us exactly how & when the mpg gains occur, as we were surprised years ago when these programs were first released at those large gains in mpg as well. And they basically told us that it was just from the tuning, that with the increased power you can now use less throttle opening to reach and maintain a given velocity than before, and that allowed for fuel savings when the motor is under a load, diesels work dirfferently than gasoline engines in that regard. Neat byproduct!
The Superchips Micro Tuner for the Ford Powerstroke diesel will allow you to upload your choice of either our emissions certified standard performance program, which will add 60 hp & 115 lbs./ft. of torque, or our Off Road program, which will add 80 HP & 150 lbs./ft. of torque.
For racers, we have even higher power level programs, but they are not emissions certified & you can't tow anything with those extreme programs, they are for those who are really pushing their PSD's, racing them, etc..
You can go back to stock, or switch between either of the performance programs in aobut 6 minutes, it's a very simple & easy instalation.
This product, the Superchips Micro Tuner for the Ford Powerstroke diesel, is available in our online ordring system right here, and you can access it by clicking on the link just below, in our signature line.

Hi Bob,
You'll love what our Micro Tuner does for your PSD, & thanks for your order!
Towing is indeed an excellent test!
A couple of things to keep in mind...................
1.) The Micro Tuner contains both the CARB (50-state emissions) certified program that adds 60 HP & 115 lbs./ft., as well as the Off Road program. The CARB program (also referred to as the "standard" program) does not limit your towing capacity (20K lbs. including the vehicle weight), and you do not need to do any other modifications to use that program.
2.) The Off Road program does reduce your towing capacity, as it pushes the engine further for even more power, so EGT's will start to go up. To use this program to best advantage, you should use an EGT gauge along with an open intake and exhaust, so the engine can breath properly at those power levels & loads. This Off Road program is not emissions certified, and you will usually not see much in the way of mpg gains. Again, this is all a matter of just how much more power is being added, as it's at this point that other modifications are required, and you start being able to tow less total weight before EGT's start to rise.
The vast majority of our PSD customers use the CARB program (+ 60 HP), as the power gains are large, it's emissions certified, no other modifications are required, and you can tow all the weight you want, up the side of a mountain if you so choose.
Good luck!
