pinging
Rick here;I have a ?.I have a 2002 Lightning and installed PSP air filter-4 # JL pulley and a superchip.I installed the chip on Wens.-the pulley on Fri. and the filter Sat. I ran the truck at test and tune in Kinston on Sat. and did bad.A few of us was there and we heard pinging.I ran 93 gas and the code is ABU214lb.e2s on my chip .I was upset to find I paid $400. for the chip to start and then to have the pinging.Charlie helped me at superchips, someone said I would do better to send the chip to JDM for a reburn.Any help?roadking99us@yahoo.com
Just a few quick thoughts Was the chip burned for the 4# pulley? Did you have a chance to put a few hundred miles on the truck after the changes? Sometimes it takes the pcm a while to max out all the changes a chip makes I sure others will be along to help you with this Hope you get fixed sounds like a nice ride

That's very easy to take care of, just let Superchips do their job, JDM can't give you a better program than Superchips can, as Superchips makes all of those programs to begin with. We know the good people at JDM Engineering and in fact, we distribute JDM Engineering's Lightning parts here at Performance Products.
What you'll want to remember here is that unless Superchips has physical access to the vehicle with the fuel it's going to be run on in the tank to put on the dyno and nail the tuning (which can still alter later on sometimes thanks to fuel changes, adaptive strategy, and the fact that 2001's & up take longer for the ECU to pick up certain changes), it can sometimes take a couple of program adjustments to get it dialed in just right in a highly over-boosted Lightning like you have. Sometimes the tuning has to be altered for your location & local fuel quality as well as your modifications. That is perfectly normal when making a performance program for a highly over-boosted Lightning like yours (and mine, by the way).
Usually we don't need to do much in the way of adjustments with our programs, but every once in awhile it will be necessary, and that is a perfectly normal part of the process.
The reality is that Superchips has tuned more Lightnings, and has had more of the 1999 & up Lightnings on the dyno, onthe street and at the track than any other chipmaker, by a rather large margin. There isn't anyone else I'd want tuning my 2001 500+ HP Lightning or our customers vehicles.
What we do with our Lightning customers is to put them in the 2-program Superchip Flip Chip, so that they have a pair of programs, one for full performance, and the other to compensate for bad gas, etc. That is also how I run our Lightning on pump premium. In the winter, I have to run the more conservative program, as our winter fuel just won't support the higher performance program like our summer fuel formulation will.
If you'd like to go over this in some detail, please just give us a call, our contact info is below. Hang in there, this is easily taken care of.

more than a ping
I took it to the ford service ( without mods.) and had a tech. listen to it .Come to find out it's the rods, new engine goes in next week. But it did ping first from being to lean.
Well, a rod knock is obviously far different from pinging, & we're glad you took it in to have it checked. That kind of sound would obviously be there without the Superchip. Glad to hear it's being taken care of!
Once you get the vehicle back and put your modifications back on, make sure to work with Superchips on getting it dialed in for your local fuel quality.
Good luck!
