wierd chip problems
wierd chip problems
NO problems without the chip but when chip is installed...
sometimes as I'm deaccelerating to a redlight i will have clutch pedal in and other foot on brake. well, the engine will rev up a couple of 1,000rpms by itself completely and when it does the speedometer will go from 20mph to 30mph all by itself WHILE i'm slowing down to stop.
another time... i was driving at lunch time and the theft light was blinking like crazy like when you try starting yoru vehicle with a wrong key, BUT I WAS DRIVING AROUND WHILE IT WAS BLINKING.
and heres the real kicker... as your driving, at some times... whether your accelerating or when your crusing, then engine will completely studder, hesitate or whatever... like it shuts down a whole bank of cylinders or something and while this happens the speedometer will drop 10mph, BUT I'M DOING SAME SPEED. its a odd feeling that only happens when the chip is in. just a studder is the best way for me to think of explaining it. sometimes it dies when this happens and it won't start back up untill you move the key to "OFF" and then start it. when it dies the digital odometer will look like this "------" and both service engine and the oil light will kick on. I thought the chip was loose and coming off a bit but nope, its tight and snug and all.
it dies just like when your truck is idling and you pull the chip while your engine is running.
anybody ever hear of this?

My first thought is to double check the contacts. Make sure they are %100 clean. Make sure all the clearcoat is removed as stated in the instructions. When I cleaned the contacts on my cp, I used the rubbing alcohol, Q-tips, and screwdriver as per Performance Products. After using this method a few times, I used the green sponge to scrub off the remainder so as to not remove the "silver" coating on the contacts. Lastly, I doublechecked by lightly scraping the contacts on both sides and looked for any hazing or residue, cleaned once more with rubbing alcohol and it's worked perfectly.
However, the first thing you should do is call and/or email Mike Troyer. He will know best.

well... i know that my contacts are 300% cleaner than yours PERIOD!!!
. I sent my entire ECU computer to Superchips because they did not have the code for my 02'. I fedexed them my computer overnight and they extracted the code and then they fedexed it back overnight for a 2 day adventure. Superchips cleaned the contacts themselves and let me tell you.... NO CONFORMAL COATING PERIOD!!!.
I cleaned the maf with thottle plate and intake cleaner today... i've heard this may be the cause. I also am well familiar with mikes number, thank you. It's the weekend and was seeing if he would catch the internet by chance.

uuuhhh......feeling ok?
Sorry to step on your toes. I didn't know that you had Superchips do the cleaning themselves (forgot my mind-reader's hat
) Well, I guess that since your contacts are %300 cleaner, then perhaps it's too clean, double checking couldn't hurt ya know. Sometimes, the best way to do something is to do it yourself. Sorry for offering such blatantly wrong and overly obvious info as well. I'll make sure not to make the same mistake again, PERIOD. Good luck with your problem as you will need it.

What?!?!? (insert a gasp of disbelief here)
That's a perfect way to ruin both the Superchip and the computer, no one should *ever* try to install or remove the Superchip with the engine running!! Because we've been in this business a long time, if you're around long enough you'll eventually see everything, so we have, unfortunately, seen the potential results from a customer doing that. When trying to put a Superchip on or take it off with the engine actually running, you're taking a high chance of frying the Superchip, which would not be replaced under warranty when fried like that and would be obvious to us upon thorough testing, but to a certain extent also the ECU, which a dealership may well take a dim view of under warranty as well.
Once again, and for what seems like the 100th time just in the past 2 weeks with a number of people, if you are having a problem that you think is related to the Superchip, remove it and then pick up the phone and call us for Tech Support.
F-150 Online, as we have said many, many times, is *not* the place or the way to report any kind of problem to us, or to obtain Tech Support.
The symptoms sound like a connection-related issue, which can easily be solved by *properly* removing and then *properly* reinstalling the Superchip. However, that Superchip may be damaged internally from installing or removing it with the engine running (PLEASE, don't *anyone* ever do that under any circumstances!) , any number of things could be going on here, none of which can be solved on the message boards of F-150 Online.

yeah my money!!!
. seriously tho, the contacts are clean, I just check them... no stuff on them at all. Maybe some of that coating is lodged in the superchip from my old truck????....
mike, I'll give you a call when i find some time later this week.
Mike, I was just asking if you've heard something like this... I didn't specifically as for "HELP ME MIKE". I understand the F-150 Online Forum Vendor Rules. Not to hurt your feelings or anything either, but this thread was for anyone who might have any input on my problem too.
