Thumbs up Are You Thinking About Getting A Chip?

do Superchips work.....you be the judge>>

5.4 with just FIPK and Exhaust in 40 degree weather:

60'..............2.273
330'............6.526
1/8.............10.100
1/8.............69.79mph

Same truck with same FIPK & exhaust......but with a Superchip running 93 octane......temp around 70 degrees:

60'...............2.161
330'.............6.353
1/8...............9.837
1/8...............71.16mph

......chip equal to 2-3 tenths and about 1.5 mph in the 1/8 (Not to forget it was 30 degrees hotter while running with the chip). Also, the chip had been in the truck for over a month as to make sure that the chip was in full effect. I say its a small price to pay for the gains.....thanks Mike T.

Hi just-right,

Thanks for posting your results!

That's a strong showing for the Superchip considering that with 30 degree hotter weather you had about 3 degrees less timing available compared to what you would have had at the same temperature as the "before" run.

The average improvement at the same temperature is about a half-second off the 0-60 & 1/4 mile times in these F-150's. The range is anywhere from a low of 3 tenths to as much as just over a full second off the 0-60 & 1/4 mile times, so it looks like your results are certainly respectable.

As most people here know, I have to say that the way to "properly" test for the results from the Superchip are to do back-to-back runs on the same day, with 30 minute cooldown times in between, to have as close to the same conditions as possible. No 2 days ever have the same conditions for temperature, barometric pressure, etc., and that of course affects power. You could run a half-second slower one day compared to another, for example, wioth big differences in atmospheric conditions.

Thanks for your post!

You spend enough time here and you should know as much as the next guy.
I would guess that the 5.4 does a fine job of towing stock. The chip will absolutely give you added performance whether towing or not. I have the 4.6 and do not plan to tow. What I see people here do is use a flip chip. This would give you two programs. One to optimize towing conditions and one to enhance all-out performance. You would have to check with Mike Troyer (Performance Products) for the actual facts, but I would think that on a tight(er) budget a single program chip would also work. (Any one know if that works ok?)
In any event, you've come to the right place. Sure you can buy from a magazine or an e-tailer, but if you want to know all you can about what you are spending your dollars on...you are here!

Good luck!

Tom

I have a 19 ft Sea Pro center console that tows like a dream behind my Harley truck. It weighs about 2500 lbs not counting coolers and fishing tackle. You dont need a 2 program chip, just the regular chip, and youll have all the towing power you need.

Hi jnd,

Well, if you're on a budget then just use our standard single-program Superchip like the majority of our customers do, and you'll be fine. You can use it all the time, whether just driving back and forth to work, at the drag strip, or towing a big load, you can do all of that and more, you just continue to use your vehicle like you normally would with the Superchip.

The only thing that changes is that you have to use premium gas; of course you'll also have more power, improved drivability and better shifting in the automatics as well.

If you're on a *real* tight budget, you might want to consider the Diablo chip, it's a bit cheaper right now than the Superchip, it makes a little bit less power and doesn't have the emissions certification like the Superchip does, but it will certainly help and give you a lot of what the Superchip does.

If you would like to go over this in more detail, please feel free to give us a shout, our contact info is just below.

Good luck with your truck!

Cool

HI!... Well 3 years ago when I 1st got my superchip, I noticed by the seat of my pants that I gained a bit of power. The shifts were definately firmer. I had the chip in my truck for about 4 months and went to the dragstrip. I ran back to back 15.38's. I then removed the chip and made 4 runs. I ran 4 16.01's. Ya my truck is consistant!LOL! That's a 6.3 tenth reduction with the SUPERCHIP. I called MIKE and told him, and we were both excited. Let me just say this is not the norm. Most people will see a 2-3 tenth reduction in their 1/4 mile times.

You can also look in the classified ads here and maybe get a used one for half the price. Just make sure the computer code matches. Good luck

Superchip! Look what I tow and it does great! If you want to be able to run regular fuel, it would be worth it to spring for the extra $$ and get a flip chip. I'm running a standard single program by the way.

Hi Neal!

Actually, the average reduction in 0-60 times and 1/4 miles times with the Superchip in these F-150's runs about a half second. The range runs from a low of 3 tenths to as much as over a full second. The average is 5 tenths off.

In your case, for that particular configuration, a 2WD 5.4 like yours usually gets about 4-5 tenths off those times just to igve you an idea of what we see, so when your's got more off, over 6 tenths, yes indeed, we were very happy for you, as that was a bit above average for that specific configuration

It's been a lot of fun working with you on that truck over the years, as in each change that has been made, the estimates of power output that each of us have made for your truck at each stage were confirmed by the results at the track.

You've already got F-150 Online's fastest normally aspirated F-150, and it's going to get quicker as more is done, I can 't wait to see the first 13 second time slip in normally aspirated trim!

Hope to talk with you soon!
