? for Mike T

Mike,

What is the stock A/F ratio on the '97 4.6? The only way to adjust it, is to have a custom program on the chip? Am I correct in saying that the fuel pressure is not adjustable? Would headers have to be in the custom program, or would they not effect the chip? thanks for the help.

Hi Brian,

That varies, of course, there isn't any one set A/F ratio, it needs to vary based on many factors, such as throttle position, load, etc., that's why you have O2 sensors. For example, cruise A/F is 14.7:1, but @ WOT, it's much richer.

Yes, the only way to adjust the A/F ratio with any kind of accuracy is in a chip, that is correct. You never want to try doing that with an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, adaptive strategy can skew that over time.

Headers sometimes affect the A/F ratio enough to require adjustment, we find in the 1997 & up F-150's this happens about 15%-20% of the time. We can alawys do a custom program for headers and get about 5 more horsepower from them.

Give us a quick call if you'd like to to over this in more detail, we'll be happy to go over this with you.
