Question Superchips and K & N.....?

Hi, this is my first time on this site. It seems very informative. I just received my superchips chip today and I also purchased the K&N FIPK as well. My question is: Should I first install the K&N then the chip or does it matter? Also, I know I have to put 91 octane gas in my fuel tank after the chip is installed, but, what if I still have a full tank of 87? Will running the chip with 87 damage the chip? Anyone have any experience with this? Thank you in advance.

You can install both items at the same time without any problems...be sure to clear the computer, and it will still take a few hundred miles to "LEARN" what you have.

I already had and AIRAID FIPK system and then put on the Superchip...after about 350 miles everything has settled in....

THe 87 octane won't hurt initially, but I would not run the truck very hard until you get some 91 octane...you may see a difference in performance with that next tank of gas...good luck!!

Why not do this........install the K&N, drive as you always have until the tank is low, fill up with 91-93 octane, install the chip. That will work as it won't 'hurt' anything to run with just the filter kit.

Hi Vio...

I agree with dan. You can experiment now...install the FIPK..

With that installed and 87oct. in tank...that should give you some idea how fipk works....

Use up gas down to low fuel light.....fill up 91oct..install chip etc...

Of course you dont have to do that...but kinda fun just to see if any difference between mods...which you cant do if you install all at one time....JMO

Keep us posted! TKS. Good luck...OT

Hi Violator,

Welcome to F-150 Online!

Whatever you do, do NOT install the Superchip without having premium gas in the tank. You run the risk of detonation, and of course there will be minimal power gain if any, you could actually experience a power drop, worse driveabiity, poor mileage, etc.

In a word, DON'T!

I agree with other p[oster's ideas, go ahead and install your airbox elimination kit first, while you're running out that tank of 87 octane. It's always best to do your modifications one at a time, and then drive the vehicle, so you won't have to guess at which installation/part is the cause of the problem should one occur, that makes for much easier & faster troubleshooting.

For your Superchip installation, do things in this order: 1.) Run your current tank of 87 octane down until the low fuel light comes on. 2.) Fill it up with 91 octane Chevron, that's the best fuel to use on California. 3.) Install the Superchip.

Have fun!

Smile Thanks for the replies!

Thank you all for your kind and helpful replies!! I think I will go ahead and install the FIPK first and drive it for a week or so and then wait til I'm about empty to install the chip with 91 octane Chevron as Mike Troyer suggested for California. I'll keep you all posted on my results! Thanks again!
