couple of 'chip questions....
couple of 'chip questions....
How does a chip change the shifting on a automatic? I've read about improved shift points.... how are they improved exactly? Does it shift later, earlier? My 5.4L S'Crew shifts to second gear too early I think, will a chip change that?
I have a Superchip that I pulled outta my old truck (5-speed) before I traded, wrong code though. Can it be reprogrammed or traded in?
I like being able to run 87 octane fuel, but if a chip will make a significant improvment in mileage and performance, then I might put one in my new truck.
OK, more than a couple of questions!

Hi Chris,
Sure, if you have your original Superchip, we should be able to reprogram it for your new truck, and that would cost considerably less than buying a new Superchip.
You will have to use premium gas with the Superchip, as you know from owning it for your last vehicle.
If you want the ability to run on 87 octane, you can only do that in the 2-program Superchip Flip Chip, which would have 1 program for 87 and the other program would be our performance program for premium, with a 2-position toggle switch to select programs. We can usually arrange a trade-in for you if you like.
What the Superchip does to improve shifting is to remove the upshift & downshift delays, and firm up the shifts a bit in direct relation to how much throttle opening you give it. The only shift points that are changed with the Superchip are the full-throttle shift points, which are optimized for quickest acceleration. Your part-throttle shifts will still be vehicle speed & throttle position versus load dependant, so to speak, and you control that with yor right foot. If you only give it light throttle, then it's going to assume you don't need power and will upshift into the next gear just as soon as it can, that is how it attempts to give you the best fuel mileage, by keeping rpms down. Again, you can easily change that with your right foot. Or, we can do a custom program to raise those a bit, but most people are very happy with what the Superchip already does, and the increased power at all throttle positions improves driveabiilty enough that almost everyone is well satisfied.
Just give us a quick call to go over this if you like, we'll be back from New Year's holiday on Wednesday morning at 10am Eastern and be open our normal hours the rest of the week. I will personally be out in the afternoon, but will be in the rest of the week on Thursday & Friday.
Talk to you soon, & congrats on your next new F-150!

Keep somethign in mind, the torque converter lock up can fool you. Since I've installed the Transgo shift kit I've paid even closer attention. Under normal throttle on a flat and not under a load, TQ locks up after 3rd. Under hard throttle or under a load like towing or on a pretty good incline etc. TQ locks up between 1 and 2. Without as much load and hard throttle it may lock up between 2 and 3.
It's pretty smart. It tries to give you power where and when you need it. Although, sometimes I'd likew to be able to control it so I can get into the higher RPM HP for quicker response. Otherwise, it will pull my 7000# boat like a bull!
