reset ECU after every mod??

hey guys,

i bought a superchip a little while ago. i really like it. when i installed it i reset my ECU to feel the effects immediatly. i am wondering if when i put a different mod on my truck (airforce 1 fipk) would reseting my ECU be nessessary to feel the effects immediatly? or do the effects only come in slowly when installing a superchip? thanks for your help.

Hi LBC,

Well, it's *most* important when changing programs in the ECU, like you do with the Superchip, so you can feel the results quicker. However, it's not actually *mandatory*, it's simply recommended, so you can feel the effects of the Superchip sooner.

That is not required when doing intake or exhaust mods either, but most of us do go ahead and do another reset of the ECU anyway when installing those types of parts, just to let the ECU go back thru it's adaptive strategy adjusments from scratch with the new parts installed.

The reality is, the ECU will eventually "adapt" to all of that anyway, as much as it is able to, but doing a reset speeds this process up, as long as you don't mind going thru the relearn cycle again. Sometimes you'll get a bit rougher idle for the first few miles, etc. it's no big deal.

So the answer is, it's not *required*, but is somewhat beneficial for short-term results, so most of us will clear the ECU after installing a new go-fast part.

Happy New Year!
