Resetting computer.

When I installed my CD player yesterday, I unplugged the negative terminal on my battery. Today, when I drove to town I noticed that my truck had a rough idle. Is this normal after disconnecting the battery? I thought maybe it has to take time for the computer to reboot or something? If so, how long before it runs smooth again?

Hi Wolverine,

Yes, a rough idle is perfectly normal for a little while after clearing the ECU, and that will clear up pretty quickly, usually within 50 miles or so of driving, though sometimes it takes a few hundred miles or a few drive cycles, it's usually shorter.

Perfectly normal, the ECU has to go thru it's basic relearn cycle once again when it's cleared or power removed for long enough, so nothing to worry about & that will smooth back out shortly!
