Superchiped '02 Screw

Got my Superchip from Mike @ Performance Products today. Mike provided excellent service and was a pleasure to deal with.

With Mike's help, I sent the ECU from my '02 Supercrew to Superchips Wednesday, 12/5, as Ford hadn't provided them with the program for my computer yet. Super chips "read" the ECU, and I had it back in my truck by Friday, 12/7. Got a call from Mike on Tues 12/11, telling me my chip was ready. I received it today, 12/14.

It took about 30 minutes total to install. Mainly because I didn't have to do any of the scraping of the connectors, as Superchips apparently took care of that for me when they had it in for the read. When I took the cover off the ECU, the contacts looked scraped, so I ohmed them out, and sure enough, no lacquer on the contacts! Had I known this previous, I would have just plugged the chip in, without pulling the ECU.

Truck started right up, and I proceeded to clear the ECU as per Performance Products' directions.

As the roads were still slick from a recent rain, I didn't get a chance to really ring her out, but from what I could surmise, this mod really woke up the truck!! It feels noticeably peppier off the line and shifts are definitely firmer, although not harsh. Definitely $$$ well spent. Hopefully the weather clears up tomorrow, so I can really test it out.

Welcome to the Chip club, I also have a SCREW, 2001. I have the 4x4 version that weighs about 300 something pounds more than the 4x2 and I noticed a big diffrence as well. My next upgrade is to change the rear end out to a 4.10 to get that extra power to the rear better. When I slam on the gas, it still acts too much like a big, heavy, hunk of metal. (Basically it is) but I think the rear end will pep it up even more, as I have read a post from another SCREW owner who has done this and other than a slightly lower gas mileage, likes it.

Hi GG45ACP,

Thanks for your post, we're glad to hear you're enjoying your Superchip.

Good move checking connector status even though it was read by Superchips, that's always a good idea. We recommend removing the ECU anyway for the initial installation, so you can properly tape the Superchip to the ECU. We do that as a preventive measure on any pickup truck, SUV or 4WD vehicle, as they may see rougher use than a passenger car or offroad use, etc.

After a prolonged drought, we've been getting just enough moisture to keep roads & everything wet for over a week, so hopefully today will allow things to dry out a bit for both of us.

Enjoy your Superchip, & Merry Christmas!

Thumbs up

I've had my chip for about 2 years..and I still enjoy the heck out of it! Simply the best money I have spent on this truck. Mike has also been a wealth of information and assistance over the years.

I just ordered an AIR FORCE 1 intake kit (from Mike)....can't wait to try it out!
