Hi HOtshot,

Yes, you can just pull it out, we recommend the following procedure to remove the Superchip & restore the factory program:

1.) Disconnect the battery
2.) Remove the Superchip
3.) Replace the plastic tab on the back of the ECU that you had to remove to gain access to the connector to attach the Superchip to.
4.) Turn on headlights, in the manual position, for 5 minutes, to drain all residual current.
5.) After 5 minutes, turn off headlights & reconnect the battery.
6.) Drive the vehicle a bit, or you can just do at least one "drive cycle."

A 'drive cycle," according to Ford, consists of:

a.) Start & warm up engine for at least 4 minutes
b.) Idle for at least 45 seconds once the coolant temperature is up to 180 degrees (in other words, normal operating temperature).
c.) Accelerate to 45 MPH at 1/4 throttle.
d.) Steady throttle cruising at 30-40 mph for at least 1 minute.
e.) Drive 20 mph to 45 mph, with no wide-open throttle, for at least 4 minutes.
f.) Decelerate and then idle for at least 10 seconds.
g.) Accelerate to 55 mph at 1/2 throttle (about 10 seconds or so)
h.) Steady throttle 40-60 mph driving for at least 80 seconds.

That takes you thru one "drive cycle" as defined by Ford. You don't have to do all of that *exactly* before going in for service, most short-to-medium length trips in city driving will accomplish this just fine. That is just the exact book definition of the prodedure as defined by Ford to be a complete "drive cycle," you get the idea, it's looking for some varied driving to go thru all trip monitor tests plus the Catalytic Converter Efficiency Monitor Test. Doing that will clear the P1000 code that is set anytime you disconnect your battery. It's overkill, you can easily just drive the vehicle for a day or so of normal driving and that will accomplish the same thing. 50 miles of driving will also accomplish this.

Remember, doing that "drive cycle" as I've described is overkill, you really don't have to do all that exactly. Just drive it for a few miles after removing the Superchip and clearing the ECU with the procedure outlined in Numbers 1 thru 6 above, and you're ready for a service visit. That drive cycle procedure is done simply to clear the P1000 code that is set for a short period, until the first drive cycle is completed, anytime a battery is disconnected.

Good luck!
