installation ?

I took my 2000 F150 into the dealer to trade it in for a new one. The used car manager test drove my truck then said the transmission is shifting funny and gave me a lower quote because of it. I know the change in shifting was because of the superchip but i did not say anything. I personally like the shifting better with the superchip installed but i need to take it out and get it back to normal as quick as possible. As soon as i pull the Superchip out of the computer will it go back to normally instantly? Or do i need to do something with the battery or headlights? Thanks, Ryan

Hi Ryan,

Don't settle for that. It shifts much better with the Superchip and does not feel deficit or like there is a problem of any kind with the Superchip installed. Remove it and have them drive it again, better yet, take it to another dealer.

Don't forget, your 2000 F-150 is still under warranty, unless you already have 36K miles on it and don't have an extended warranty. That means that any problems, if one actually existed, would be covered under warranty, and will not cost that dealer a dime, so they have no business dunning you on your trade for that. Unless your warranty is expired from over-mileage, that is.

The real underlying problem that used vehicle mgr. is having to deal with (and I empathize, as it affects everyone in the chain from buyer to seller) is the used truck market is very soft, meaning retail prices are very low because of all the factory incentives on the brand new trucks, and so trade-in values are low as a result, where they traditionally are just the opposite. It's quite a different situation from the norm for many years, and one that has changed very rapidly. Dealers have a glut of trade-ins, and at teh same time can't get enough of the brand new vehicles they need. The factory is doing the 0% financing on all brand new trucks, so they're selling more new trucks than they ever have. In October, Ford sold 24% more trucks than their previous best-ever month for truck sales, if I understood their press release correctly, thanks to these strong incentive programs. This means they're having to take in far more slightly used trucks in on trade than ever have before, and that is drivng down their price.

This all adds up to them trying to find any way they can to get your trade-in value as low as possible.

I don't mean to slam the integrity of any dealer, as most are honest hard-working people, to be sure. That's just what *could* be what's happened, as it's a fact that the used truck market is the softest it's been in many years, with a huge glut of used trucks on the market right now. This is going to continue for awhile.

It may well be that this is just as you have said, this person actually felt that way, but unless your warranty has expired that shouldn't matter anyway. Don't worry about that, just pull your Superchip and the tranny returns to it's factory shift characteristics, using the procedure outlined below.

Removing the Superchip does return you back to the factory program, however, it can take about 50 miles of driving to get the shift characteristics fully back to normal after a program change. It even mentions in most F-150 owners manuals that the transmission may shift a bit different for a little while after the battery has been disconnected, I know it does in all of our new models.

What I would suggest is, disconnect your battery and remove your Superchip. Reconnect the battery, test start the engine & shut it back off. Disconnect the battery again and pull the headlights on to drain residual current for 5 minutes. Then turn the headlights back off and reconnect the battery. Drive it a bit, and you're all set, it's all back to normal!

Good luck!

Thanks for your words and advice mike, i appreciate it. And what you said makes total sense especiall since im getting the new truck for only $100 over invoice since i know i guy who works there. So they are going to try and give me next to nothing for the truck im trading in, and come up with any excuse they can.
