Mike, a few questions if I may
Mike, a few questions if I may
Hello Mike
How's it going. It's been a while since I have talked to you but, lets skip the past history and get into my long book of a post.
First, do you only deal with Fords or do you do chip work with other vehicle brands. I know of one person with a 92 Chevy 1 ton dually with a 454. He had a regular (one side) supership given to him for a 454 ( he's not sure of the year) but, he was leary of installing it as his computer may have a different code. I suggested that he may want to talk to you and if needed or possible have a reburn done. If this is within you realm it is greatly welcomed.
Back to Ford products (my 97 F150 4.6L). I am still planning on getting a superchip but have of yet been able to get the calibration code for my computer after a dealer reprogramed the PCM for the previous owner and the notice of modification sticker is too faded to read. When I did ask the dealer if they could get the code for me they said I would just have to have the computer reflashed to a later update for a 100+ fee. Is this correct or can they just get the code and I go from there? Not trying to make excuses but the reason I have delayed is because I have noticed a pinging I would like to fix before I install a superchip over top of that. Pinging began about 2 months ago and only happens (that I can hear) above 4500 RPM with colder temps (below 50). Advice on this is helpful but not of total importance. I have read the post on this board and none seem to have solid backing to them and problem usually reappears ( ie: clean carbon from TB, EGR, and DPFE).
Now that it is almost Christmas I was going to buy myself a superchip but it seems that my truck has other ideas. It now wants new plugs and wires so while I'm at it I might as well add coil packs. What would you reccommend? I thought about using the Accel wires (5137b) and possibly the coil packs (140018) but wondered with my high milage engine (130000 miles) if it would be harmful or helpful? I can see where extra 4000 volts could help revive my old engine or where it might overload my old clunker. What plugs should I run w/ the Accel packs or what to run with a stock style coil pack.
I am truely sorry about his extremly long post, but feel it's important to include detail and it's been so long since I asked things like this that I had a heck of a list.
Other members are encouraged to answer to this post too!!!

Hi KY,
We deal not only with Fords, but in fact, we make Superchips for just about anything from an Audi to a Ferrari to a Maserati to a Suzuki Swift, depending on the model year.
Yes, we do make Superchip for those GM trucks, sure! And yes, they are still all code-specific, so he will have to have it reprogrammed, and yes, we can take care of that.
No, you do not have to have your ECU reflashed yet again for a cost of $100 just to get it's code, that's absolute malarky, your dealer just didn't want to do scan the ECU. All they have to do is to scan your ECU, and that will tell them the current calibration code, which we can then cross-reference back to the correct catch code, or "computer code" as we refer to it.
My advice is to never take your vehicle to that same dealer for anything ever again, vote with your wallet and never do any kind of business with them in the future, no matter how large or small.
This is something that we routinely send customers that are not in our area to their local Ford dealer to have done, and even where labor rates are their highest, in places like Washington DC, for example, the charge should not be more than $50 to scan the ECU to tell you the code. Many times you can get it done free, especially if done by the dealership you bought the vehicle from; but if so, make sure to slip the techincian a fast $20, fair's fair.
With regards to ignition, it's not going to hurt a thing to use those better quality Accel parts, I sure wouldn't hesitate. For spark plugs, for best performance, I like the Denso Iridium plugs, so much so that we now carry them, go figure.
For a good plug that you can go over 50,000 miles with no power drop on, a set of Bosch Platinum +4's would work well, and we used them in all of our vehicles until the Denso's came out & we learned more about them.
Good luck, & give me a call if you have further problems or quyestions, etc.

What can I say... Well, your one heck of a guy and I'll stand behind that. Time in time again I know you get asked the same old questions and you always give out a great answer with a smile and that is true customer service.
I have since found that it is diffently the wires and will replace them with the Accel along with Accel coils. The plugs seem to be fine but will be replaced here shortly. If I am not able to locate those Denso Iridium plugs locally I will be in contact. I did notice you said the Denso Iridium were the best perfomers but how are they on durability?
Once again thanks for your help and I will be giving your contact info to my friend with the 454. He might not contact you right away though as he has a linited income and with the economy down that makes things even worse.
