Chip Question???

I have heard that installing a chip will also re-calibrate your speedo after installing larger tires. Is this true, or was my buddy just yanking my chain!!!

Thumbs up Yes you can.

My flip chip is programmed for stock tires on one side and for my 35" tires on the other. I change them back and forth for the winters around here. Hope this helps.

I belive you can get a custom program to compensate for the larger tires. One quesiton I have is can the chip be programed if say you change the gear raitos?

Thumbs up Yes.

You effectively change your gear ratio when you go to a different size tire. If you go to a larger tire, you effectively numerically lower your gear ratio. So, I believe that a chip can compensate for different gearing. Mike T. can tell you for sure.

Thumbs up Derek-

The chip tuners can compensate for tire/gear changes. You have to contact them with your computer code. When the new computers/trucks come out, they need some time to catch up with the programming. Once it's figured out, it's available for everyone with that code from then on.

Hi Derek,

Well, that won't happen "automatically", it does require a custom program, we'll have to know the exact tire size, etc.

Yes, we are doing that in the 1999 & 2000 F-150's, and have that taken care of in the 2001 Mustangs as well, with work progressing on getting speedo corrections done in the 2001 F-150's.

However, nobody has the speedo corrections done properly on the 2002 models yet, they're just too new. Heck, the first 2002 F-150's just appeared about a little over a month ago, they were released about 2 months late this model year, so that is going to be a little while. We do already have a number of Superchip performance programs available for 2002 Fords, including many of the 2002 F-150's, but the speedo correction isn't available just yet.
