Question SuperChip Warranty Questions

Hi Everyone,

I'm a new F150 owner and this SuperChip sounds like something I really want to get however I have a few questions maybe someone can answer for me.

First, Will having the SuperChip in the truck void my warranty in any way?

Where's the best place to buy the SuperChip. I'm sure there are a lot of dealers but I would like a suggestion of a good priced one that might even let me order on the net.

Does SuperChip ever re-vamp it's programming and when/if they do that can you send the chip back in or how does that work?

What other considerations might happen if I install a SuperChip. e.g. Do I need to start using 92 octane gas or special filters.

Ok that's all I can think of right now. Thanks for any help anyone can give.

No it will not void your warranty. You are protected by the Magnuson Moss Warranty act which basically says that Ford has to prove that the aftermarket item caused the specific damage and then they can only deny coverage on that specific part. Do a search, this has been discussed many times.

Welcome to the forum!

I'm sure Mike Troyer will be chiming in soon, I don't know where he gets the time to respond so often, and the responses have have always been thorough and polite. (Reason enough to buy the chip from him I thought).

That said, no warranty issues like Norm mentioned. I think I covered who to buy it from-- IMHO.

Revamp-- No, but does Ford if you take the truck in for routine service?? Probably only if there is a defect relating to the ECU. However if you sell this truck and buy another similar (like I did) you can pull the chip and they can re-program it for the new ECU code for a nominal fee. If you add several upgrades you also can get it re-programmed to "grow" with your mods, but you won't receive a note or anything to do so.

Gas-- I'd definately suggest premium. Some will argue that over the life of the vehicle this adds up to $$$, yes it does. Performance costs money-- (cynics) get over it. Nothing else special though, just enjoy.

Hi FloridaFord,

Welcome to F-150 Online!

1.) No, the Superchip does not void your factory warranty, in fact, that is highly illegal! As was mentioned previously, you are protected by the Magnason-Moss Warranty Act, among others, with regards to the use of any kind of aftermarket part (performance, appearance, or replacement in nature). Here is a link that will help to give you some more information: www.sema.org/fedleg/warranty

2.) Yes, we have our online ordering system for the Superchip right here on F-150 Online available for you!

All you have to do is to click on the link just below in our signature line in this email, and that will take you right to our online ordering system, so you can order it with our F-150 Online discount.

3.) Once the R&D is done on a vehicle application, it's done, that's it, there are no more changes to the program. It's not like commercial PC software, where it's (Microsoft, Symantec, etc.) rushed to market for a quick fix of $$$ to keep the share price up & then maybe fixed later on with an extra-cost upgrade. So there is no reason for ongoing updates. Once we have the powertrain programming R&D finished, that's it.

Once in awhile we'll find a vehicle that requires further R&D due to it being something completely new & different, and/or it's just
that complicated (like the 1999 supercharged Lightning), and in those cases, we let everyone know there is an update available. That is extremely rare, but when it happens, those updates are provided for just the cost of return shipping.

4.) Yes, you will need to use premium gas with the Superchip, that's how the power is gained, by retuning the engine specifically for the use of premium gas.

We also offer , a 2-program type of Superchip called the Flip Chip, and we set those up on SIde 1 with a program that is optimized for use with regular gas (87 oct.), on which the power gain is very small of course, maybe 3-5 horsepower. Then the other program is our normal performance program for premium gas, the same program that normally comes in our single-program Superchip. This is an elegant solution for those who want the ability to run either 87 or premium gas just by flipping the attached toggle switch, for ultimate flexibility.

If you'd like to go over this in more detail, ask other question, etc, please feel free to give us a call, our contact info is just below & we'll be happy to help.

We hope you'll hang out with us here & enjoy all the benefits of F-150 Online!

THANKS

Mike, Greg, Norm,

Thanks for the Welcome and all the information. It's really great to have a community to talk in about my truck. I love my truck and am planning on keeping it for a long time. And of course that means customizing it to fit me.

I can't wait to get it all moving. I'm ordering the chip tonight from Mike. I'll let everyone know how it goes.

Thanks for everything

Hank Sheldon
