Attn: Mike Troyer- I have a problem....
How you doin. Here's my problem: I recently installed an 80MM MAF sensor and now my truck is detonating severely even on 93 with octane booster. I tried side two of my chip to no avail and have had to take the chip out temporarily. I would like to know what we can do t re-flash my chip to take advantage of the new meter and solve my detonation. I have loked over the truck using a snap-on scanner and the a/f got dangerously near 18:1!!!
I would also like to know if you could look up my info and remind me exactly what the details of the programs are for each side of the chip. I know one was for normal and one was for nos. Otherwise I have had absolutely no problems stemming from the chip and have enjoyed it tremendously, it truly does what you promised, and more. My name is Daniel Higdon, my address was at the time of order 7102 N. 43rd. Ave. Glendale, AZ 85301. The code on the back of my chip is FMY2 2406. Thanks Mike!

Hi Daniel,
OK, I know you have a serious problem & we'll get to that, but first, please bear with me while I point out something that I am obliged to say because of the policies regarding us vendors here on F-150 Online........
As a Supporting Vendor of this web site, we have to abide by certain policies, among which is that anything that is of a nature that is between vendor & customer, Tech Support, pricing, order status, etc. must be communicated privately, either by phone or email, etc., off of these public message boards. Over the years, as F-150 Online has grown, it's become an issue, & thanks for understanding.
OK on to your problem, briefly........
It's no wonder you have a problem!
You *cannot* use an aftermarket MAF (mass airflow meter) with a performance chip unless the program was custom made for that specific MAF. We do not recommend using any aftermarket MAF even by itself as the only modification! They simply cannot be *safely* used without a custom tuned chip, due to how badly they lean out the A/F, even when "properly" calibrated by their respective manufacturers for the vehicle & injector size. Almost all aftermarket MAF's installed on these vehicles will seriously lean out the air/fuel mixture, in many cases causing your engine to run dangerously lean, as in your case, and that is why you are now getting detonation like that.
The first thing you need to do is to IMMEDIATELY REMOVE that aftermarket MAF to protect your engine from further harm. Second, please get in touch with us via email or phone, and we'll make the arrangements to get the custom programming you need done. My recommendation is do not drive that vehicle another mile before taking that MAF off & putting the stock unit back on. I can only imagine the horrific amount of detonation you got with that combination, that piston melting 18:1 A/F says it all, OUCH!!!
You're also going to need to check the calibration of that MAF as well, as even as much as those MAF's lean out the A/F, you should not have gone 18:1, I could see maybe mid- 14's:1 @ WOT, which is of course much too lean @ WOT, but 18:1, that's horrendous!
Give us a shout my friend, & talk to you soon!

That is a very important point, any mass airflow meter, where it's an aftermarket as in this case, or a stock unit, the MAF has to be precisely calibrated for each specific vehicle, otherwise tuning it will be a complete hit or miss proposition. Even with the right calibration, any aftermarket MAF is going to cause a leanout of the A/F mixture on these Ford trucks rangin from 1.8-2.0, which requires compensation.
