Ford vs. Dodge today
One of my friends got a 98 Dodge SS/T I think it's called. It has a 360 with 392 gears flowmaster wide tires and it's a regular cab. He wanted to race me last week, but it never happened, but today after swithing from the Flowmaster 40 to the magnaflow cat back, I called him. my truck is a 99 F-150 supercab so I know it's heavier than his. We raced twice, once from a stop up to 100 and it was close until about 80 and I smoked him and the 2nd time from a roll and I beat him up to 80 by 1/2 truck length and easily pulled him from there. Man with the stuff on that truck, I thought it would be much faster. Anyway I love the new magnaflow muffler. Thanks to the guys that recommended it.
Hi Mikey,
Well, let's see...... I was reading over your initial post again, where you beat that Mopar, and I agree, that Mopar should have been quicker, at least on paper, it seems. Sounds like your truck is running pretty darned good, but then, it always has.
OK next mod.....from looking at your signature, you've got the Superchip, and intake and an exhaust on it, as well as underdrive pulleys and the conversion to electric cooling fans, so next up would probably be a set of headers, since it's a 5.4 motor. If it was a '99 4.6, I'd say let's get a hotter ignition system on there, but since it's a '99 5.4, it has the COP system, so headers would probably be next.
If you go for the headers, make sure to have them Jet-Hot coated.
With regard to which supercharger is "best" for these vehicles, we prefer the Magnacharger setup, as it's very efficient. It's similar to the Lightning setup with it's Eaton supercharger & the same basic style of intercooler, and it's of course a Roots-type blower, so the torque is virtually instant-on.

HI!... Headers are not hard to install if you have knowledge of simple hand tools and are mechanically inclined. It only took me 3.5 hours to install my JBA's and that is including wasting 30 minutes trying to bend my EGR tube to fit properly.
Hi Mikey88,
That varies somewhat on these F-150's based on weight of course, as we all know, there is well over 3000 lbs. of potential weight difference based on body & mechanical configuration choices. Lighter trucks will see more reduction in ET from any mod, of course.
In a case where the vehicle has say, the Superchip, an intake kit and a cat-back exhaust of some kind, adding headers generally gets about another tenth to a tenth and a half off the 0-60 & 1/4 mile ET. That's just ballpark of course, and anyone who has any specific before & after numbers (or as close as you can get with something like headers, which can't readily be installed at the track), we'd love to see that data posted.
