5.4 2v (SLEEPER BUILD?)

So I have an 01’ xlt supercrew (4door) 2wd automatic stock height on all terrains.

(STREET SLEEPER BUILD?) idk I’m at a cross between 2/3’s drop,18/16 stagger or bags

I am looking to put more power to the wheels and wondering the best route to gain a good amount of horsepower without having to (replace/upgrade) my engine internals just yet.

Truck is young low mileage 153,000 has been paw-pawed its life.

Looking at programmers/chips turbo’d anything performance really?

Maybe run full length headers 3” exhaust y’d out

IDK YALL LMK

5star programming controller worked out very nice. Probably only got 10-15 HP gain but I needed the towing tune and tranny controls.
100% agree with a previous answer BOOST because these 5.4 is stock trim are NOT intended to be hot rods (not by a long shot) but due ALMOST offer enough torque to useful. Consider a gear swap, tranny freshen-up, controller/tune....THEN you will be ready for some BOOST to make it run.

You might want to prep yourself for the maintenance already KNOWN to be needed on this era 5.4 like 50/50 shot on how long the tranny lives, cracked PLASTIC intake manifold, rusted out water heater pipe and lastly NEVER WASH THE MOTOR!!!! until you are ready to remove all the coils and spark plugs. ....then wash it

Oh boy, the old engine wash fiasco. Never do it! I did...
I also changed the engine out for a new unit from Jasper and changed the intake to the newer design that isn't supposed to crack. We will see.
Heater pipe rust? Uh-oh, haven't heard of that yet. Lovely. :O
I purchased my truck off the showroom floor in 2000, its a 2001 Super-crew Lariat 5.4 (tow package) I have replaced the tranny two or three times and rebuilt the rear end at least twice.
I'm now ready for the ceremonial drop and new tire/wheel combo. Engine upgrades to follow.
