Lightbulb Superchips

I got my superchips yesterday (thanks Mike). I just filled my truck up w/ regular gas, so should I wait until it gets to "E" again and put 93 octane in it before I install the chip? Is Exxon a good gas, or do I need to get it somewhere else? I also heard some guys talking about headers putting off a lot more heat when you run higher octane gas. I don't have headers now, but I am planning on getting some, will this cause a problem with my temp, or can I just get a ceramic coating on them and not worry about it? I wanted to install my chip this week, but my stupid landlord won't let me work on my truck here, so I guess I'll have to wait until this weekend.

Hi slickwillie,

If you just filled up with regular, we recommend that you run that tank of 87 down at least until you see the low fuel light come on, then fill it up with premium gas, and then install the Superchip.

Sometimes people will be a bit anxious to get the Superchip installed and will only run down part of the tank of regular, and then "top it off" with premium, but that isn't the way to do it. Just run that tank of lower octane down until the low fuel light coes on, fill it up with good premium gas, and then install your Superchip.

With regards to installing headers, yes, make sure whatever you do, get the Jet-Hot ceramic coating on those headers, with Jet-Hot they'll coat them inside and out, so you'll get more power and not have all that heat underhood cooking everything.

Hang in there, it won't be long and you'll have that lower octane out and be able to start enjoying your Superchip.

Hey Slick! Let me know how you like your Chip. I'm thinking about getting one for Christmas.
BTW, how do you like your TB spacer? Notice any gains?
Also, I think it's time to change your sig since you have some sweet wheels and tires now.

Hey Chipper,

Just curious, I saw in your sig. that you have the '99 Lightning wheels & then the Michelin tires. What size tires did you put on those rims? I'm just wondering because it looks from your picture like they're taller than the Lightning tire size of 295/45/18, so I thought I'd ask & see if it's just my eyes.

Whatever size they are, they look good in the picture!

Thanks Mike!
Yeah, instead of going with the 295/45/18, I went with 285/55/18. That was the closest to stock (275/60/17) I could get.

Hi Chipper,

Ahh, that makes a lot of sense, good move & thanks for the info.

That taller sidewall actually looks *very* good on those wheels and on that truck; I think it works very well.

Have fun!
