Noob Question Regarding Tuner Compatibility

Howdy all,
I'm considering getting an SCT X4 for my 05. I have zero practical experience with tuners, so my question may seem silly. If I were to eventually get a new vehicle, with a different engine/year, would I be able to take the tuner with me/ have it be compatible with the new vehicle? I understand the concept of it being "locked" to the VIN and that there are a limited # of unlocks, I am moreso wondering if, for example, I get an f150 with the 5.0, is the physical tuner the same part number? I understand that the tunes would definitely not work on a differently spec'd rig, but it'd be wonderful to just have to buy new tunes instead of the whole new piece. Thanks in advance, and I hope this makes sense!

I think they would both be the same part number (7015). As long as you put the first truck back to stock you should be able to just get new tunes loaded to the same device. See the common questions in the manual:

That's what I was thinking. As long as the next vehicle has the same part number (7015) it should work. Thanks!
