4.6 3v question

It's been a few years since anyone commented about this motor and tuner combo. Anybody have any updates about performance since its been a few years. I am looking at making a purchase soonish either through 5star or vmp.

I've had a number of tunes now, SSI and MPT are the go to guys in my opinion. 4.6 3v has lots of power left to be uncorked.

cheef,
What tunes did you have? I was planning on getting 87 towing, 87 performance, and 91 performance. Is the economy tune worth it? My average commute to and from work is only 8 miles or so.

I have a bunch of tunes, none are what I would consider bad, however some are wayyyyyy better than others.
SSI 91 performance is unreal. MPT 93 Race is excellent. 5 star 91 tow has done very well for me, I just pop this in for my summer vacation every year. I have not tried my SSI tow tune so not much to compare it to. So far my SSI 91 performance gets best MPG for me, even better than my 91 5* economy tune.

If I was starting from scratch I would never bother with an "economy tune."

If I was buying 3 tunes today I would order an 87 tow tune, 91 (or higher octane) tow tune and a 91 performance tune. 87 octane doesn't give the tuner much to work with, but I think it's important to have 1 tune that is 87 just in case you find yourself in situation where 87 is only available fuel.

Best customer (for me) service goes to SSI and MPT.

Let us know what you end up with!!

Just noticed your SIG, those are some fat/heavy tires to turn! You probably need all the help you can get!

I just sent mpt an email this afternoon so hopefully I'll have a working dialogue with them soon. The rims and tires just went on last week. I was running a 285/70/17 on stock rims previously, but got a deal I couldn't refuse on the rims and tires. The added mass is definitely noticeable. I'll take a look at ssi as well.

Just got my tunes last night. The shipping of the SCT and the writing of the tunes from MPT has been very prompt. Loaded the 87 performance this morning and there is a dramatic difference from stock and from the canned tune. They suggest no WOT for about 30 miles so I am just cruising. Unfortunately my commute to work is only about 5 miles, so I'll have some driving to do this evening so I can lay the hammer down. Once this tank is empty, I will try the 91 performance.
Before switching to the 91 performance, do I need to return to stock from the 87 tune or can I just load the 91 tune?
I'll give a more detail review in the next few days for any of the 4.6 3V guys. Also, does anyone make a ghost cam tune for this motor?

Glad you're digging the tune so far! Don't need to return to stock between tunes.
