F 150 tuner question

My brother drives an 06 f150 XLT 5.4. He really wants a tuner (price range around $300-400). What we want to know is are there any mechanical problems that come with having a tuner? We don't do a whole hell of a lot of towing. Just a 2-place snowmobile trailer and one in the bed. About 2000lbs trailer weight and 600 in the bed. The truck pulls it like its not even there so it ain't like we need more power. So is it worth the money and if so what's a good tuner for that price range? Any help is appreciated thanks guys.

Feller on here name o' Mike is their rep - forum handle = "MorePowertuning".

Best bang-fer-buck mod yall kin do! More pahwr, Far more low-end grunt, fantastic shiftin', ETC throttle delay be hist'ry, and ye tranny will last longer to boot, as there be less slippage 'tween shifts.

Ye kin order tow-specific tunes, perf tunes, etc - anything ye wishes. Talk to 'em, aight?

Don' fergit to mention ye F1fiddyonline forum discount!!!

Do NOT git a canned device like Hypercrap, Jet, Edge or Superchips. Fer aboot the same scratch ye kin wear Armani instead o' WallyMart, ye savvy?

Best o' luck!

To start with IMHO, going with a mail order tune is really no different than your grandparents taking their car to "Tune-Masters" for a tune-up......yes, they did change the plugs etc, but they were not there to fine tune the car just find the middle of the road where the car runs and get it out of the shop. Mail order tuners are no different...anyone who claims they can tune your car without ever seeing it is selling camel poop- period! The cannot tune your engine without seeing the data specific to altitude, humidity & fuel burning characteristics- just because you use 93 octane does not mean the 93 octane they used on their dyno (tuners) has the same burning characteristics...nor do they typically address the seasonal fuel blends for each region of the US...........nor are these "mail order tuners' regulated like any other auto repair shop in the US...so if they "damage" your car...gee, sorry...sue me!

and there are plenty of postings illustrating that point including the "big Name Brands".....

If you really have no choice but to go with a "mail Order Tune" I would recommend Blue Oval Chips....IIRR, the gent is/was a Ford MSE (Engine & Trans) and has been around for 25+ years.

There are other very good mail order tuners - and they will fine tune it with datalogs.
