OK....BigWhite Pittsburgher.....what was your average mpg before the SuperChip? I only gained about 1/2 mpg after this mod.

Hi Bigwhite, & everyone else too.........

First, thanks for your post, bigwhite, and I did want to make a few comments..................

1.) Though I'm sure Dogcam was joking, just so we're all clear, bigwhite was *not* paid (or asked) by us to say anything, nor have we ever compensated anybody in any way to say anything about us or any product we carry. Never have, never will.

2.) With regards to the mpg gains reported by bigwhite, I guess my first comment is a hearty WOW!, followed by a WHAT?!?!?

Those are by far the largest mpg gains ever reported to us in an F-150; in fact, that is literally *twice* as large as the next largest reported mpg gain from the Superchip in the F-150, if memory serves. While there have been a few people that have reported gains of as much as 3.5 mpg in both F-150's and Expeditions under *ideal* conditions from the Superchip, on average, it's usually more like 1.5-2.0 mpg in the V-8 automatic F-150's & Expy's, a little bit more in the manual-transmission F-150 models. Some people see no mpg gains, either due to using cheap or lower-energy premium gas, or just how they drive & operate their vehicle.

The potential for better fuel mileage from the Superchip is primarily a by-product of the performance tuning for premium gas, specifically, the increased spark advance used on part-throttle. There can be some additional potential for mpg improvement in situations where the increased power (specifically the increased torque at all throttle positions) from the Superchip helps to avoid some of the downshifting in the automatics, and thus allow the engine to turn fewer rpms by staying in Overdrive (4th gear in the automatics) or any higher gear for that matter, we see that when towing sometimes, just for one example.

Most of the people who see mpg gains from the Superchip realize those gains primarily when cruising, when they keep their foot out of the throttle in other words, though a few see better mpg in the city too, when driving very conservatively.

I guess I should start by asking Bigwhite if he can please fill us in on some of the number details, such as the exact mileage numbers before & after, # of gallons used for the number of miles driven during each tank, etc., as well as anything else he feels may be a factor; in other words, the basic "data".

When we have a post of a really abnormal result like this, we like to try to determine just what is going on & if possible, why, so that we can hopefully learn from it.

For example, are these gains the result from installing only the Superchip, or is this a combined result from installing all of those parts, the Superchip, the intake, the exhaust, etc? Even for a combined number, those mpg gains are still abnormally high, as to be able to increase city or even highway mpg by 7 full mpg is nothing short of fantastic, & something I think all of us would love to be able to enjoy.

Bigwhite, please don't take offense to this question, but given who we are I just have to ask, do you think there is any chance that you might have just made some sort of error in your calculations? My first thought was that perhaps the decimal was just in the wrong place, for example, maybe you meant to say that you got .7 mpg increase in the city, and a .8-.95 mpg increase on the highway, is that possible, do you think, that it's just a decimal place error perhaps?

In fact, Bigwhite, if you wouldn't mind, please feel free to call me collect at our number listed below in our signature line (we're here Monday thru Friday from 10am to 7pm Eastern time), as we'd really love to go over this with you, if that's OK with you. If you could spare just a few minutes to call (or if you'd like to shoot us an email with your name & number we'll be happy to call you if you prefer), it would be greatly appreciated. We'd love to see just what we have here and how this kind of gain, or even anything anywhere near those numbers, could perhaps be achieved by other F-150 owners.

With the use of screen names here on F-150 Online, we don't know whose real name matches which real name in most cases, otherwise we'd just look you up to see if you're in our customer files, and just give you a quick call. Since we can't do that, perhaps you might be willing and/or able to find the time to call us collect, or shoot us your name & number in email & we'll call you, etc., if you wouldn't mind.

Hoping to speak with you soon!

Hi Bigwhite,

Thanks for your response.

OK, whenever you get back in pocket, so to speak, please do let us have a look at your data, etc., and please do feel free to call me collect, I've love to go over this with you a bit, to see if we can get to the bottom of this for you.

Obviously this extremely large apparent increase in mpg has you wondering a bit too, that's probably why you posted it, to see if that seems to make any sense. I'm glad you did, once we go over the data, etc., perhaps we can determine just what's going on. I can tell you one thing, getting anything from 20.0 mpg and above, under *any* circumstances with one of these F-150's, is darn near a miracle, so I'm sure you can understand why some of us are "Doubting Thomases", as the saying goes, and don't be offended by that.

Get back to us whenever you can, & we hope to talk with you soon!

Enjoy your weekend,
