Anybody put a Superchip on a 4.9L?
Anybody put a Superchip on a 4.9L?
Was thinking of getting a superchip (from these guys www.superchips.com) for my pickup. Are the power gains worth the price on the six cylinder? Anybody got one on their 4.9?
Thanks in advance!
Thanks in advance!

Hi BlueOval300,
Though you haven't seen any responses yet, there actually are about a dozen or so registered 4.9 owners here on F-150 Online who have installed the Superchip that I know of. They may not be active here on the boards right now, however.
Just to give you some kind of feedback, the power gains from the Superchip on the 150 hp version of the "Big 6", as we affectionately call those 4.9's, runs 15 horsepower and 31 lbs./ft. of torque. In the 140 hpino, which is probably what you have there, it's 14 horsepwoer & 31 lbs./ft., almost identical. In round numbers, think of the Superchip as a 10% power-gainer for that engine.
The Superchip will basically give you more of what you have, and that Big 6 is a tremendous lower-rpm torque producer, which is why many owners bought them for towing purposes, etc. So you'll see noticeably more torque, and as the rpms rise, more horsepower as well.
The way your vehicle is going to feel from installing the Superchip can best be described by saying it's going to feel like you picked up about 10% more motor under the hood. You will have more power on tap at any throttle position, as the Superchip works adding power all the time. It's an excellent "bang-for-the-buck", which is why the Superchip is so popular on these computer-controlled vehicles.
If you'd like to go over this in more detail, please feel free to give us a call, we'll be happy to speak with you.
We're always glad to see another 4.9 here on the boards, they're getting more rare as time goes on, and it's always nice to see someone else taking care of them, modifying & enjoying them! They're very reliable and rugged motors; as long as you keep the oil changed in them at no more than 3000 mile intervals, it should give you a long service life, many of those 4.9's can go 200,000 miles and even more without major repairs. They do tend to accumulate sludge, so it's important to change the oil frequently, they like to clog the oil pickup screen & oil galleries if the oil gets dirty.
Best of luck with your truck,
