5Star Tunning, Mike

5Star Tunning, Mike
Been talking to him most of the day. Getting his opinion on different things(considering get SCT and his custom tunes while they are having sale). He seemed nice and helpful. Even recommended the intake I should get(for my set-up), isn't one of the many he sells. Pretty cool I thought when you're in the business to sell Your product.
Anyway, what took me by surprise was the turn around of custom tunes. He said when I buy the SCT and custom tunes, they would be ready the next business day!
Those of you who have dealt with 5Star tuning. How would rate them? Impressions, recommendations etc...

I recently purchased a tuner and 3 tunes on special and am super pleased with everything. Tuner showed up quickly and then the turn around on the stragities was quick even with Mike being out of town. The turck runs and drives better now then it ever has since owning it and I'd recommend it for anyone with a 3v ford 5.4 although i'm sure all his other tunes are fantastic too. power, shifting and general drivability are so much better than the stock tune. very professional over at 5-star.

After almost a year everything has been great re: 5star. Mike has tweaked my tunes in under an hour. Right out of the box they were great but some tweaking made them even better - that's the benefit of custom tunes. Make sure you get at least one 93 octane tune from him.
5star is on sale right now, can't beat it.
Click on my name and you can see I've gone in depth reviewing 5star. As well I've compared 5star to VMP. I personally like 5star more. Having said that - VMP is coming to Texas this spring for real dyno tuning which might work better for you, both use SCT.
You won't believe the difference trust me.

I'm really wanting to get the 3015 and have one concern that I admittedly have not asked him about yet:
I just last week got the new CAC and PCM programming - this eliminated the 55 shudder for me and I'm wondering if he would base my custom tunes from this latest PCM programming by the Ford dealer or?

Mike can answer that best. I wouldn't be surprised if the tuning eliminated any/all previous quirks that Ford's tuning had/has. Mike "cured" all of my symptons and complaints with his tuning.
I should have mentioned earlier I towed 4-5000lbs all summer on my 91 octane perf/tow 5star tune and it was amazing.

Mike/5Star is AMAZING! Placed order for SCT X3 last wed(12th). Received the tuner Saturday( 15th ) . Read my PCM and email it to Mike later that day. Received my custom tunes THE NEXT DAY. And a Sunday no less!
Haven't installed yet because I'm waiting for my Airaid dam to install. Should be here today.
Hopefully the tunes are as good as the customer service!!

If you want to see what VMP did for the 4.6 check out their dyno plots in their forum. Under the curve the 4.6 was netting 40-50 hp and Tq at the wheels, most of it in the mid range. I'm sure 5star's gains on the 4.6 are very similar. I've never driven a tuned 4.6 but I'm 100% you'd feel a huge difference compared to stock.

I am not making any reference to any of the mentioned tuners, but be very carefull who you select to purchase and tune from as many of these geniuses have really caused alot of damage and are unregulated by state & federal agencies since they are not repair facilities, etc. Read the posts at flatratetech.com from the MSE techs or as an example this. of one of the most notible "Tuners".................

"Got my engine build finished in May. Ran great. Took it to Roush Racing for a tune. It is a 93, efi, 302 with several upgrades. Went to get it from Roush and the water hose had blown and torn up my brand new hood I just had painted. It can be fixed. Drove the car home and it would not start the next day. Finally found the adapter between the TPS and painless harness was missing. Fixed that. It would not idle consistently. Took it back to Roush. They said it was fixed. Went less than 1/2 mile and it was idling at 2500 rpm. Took it back. They were lost"
If you look at the dyno charts from many of these supposed HP/TQ increases, they are typically around 5%-7% at peak rpm ranges…….guess what, 5% is a standard deviation even amongst mfg dynos.and to claim on a normally apsirated engine to market huge HP/TQ gains, well, and if you go to this link http://www.fordracingparts.com/downl...ceTechTips.pdf the engineers at Ford racing have a article on just exactly how “tuners” play games with the hp/tq ratings, how calibration can cause misleading dyno results, & some of the “tricks” that are used to gain supposed power increases.
IMHO, if you live near any major city there are excellent tuning specialists with dynos who for the same price (if not less) will tune your vehicle taking into consideration your specific needs including environmental conditions, for your specific vehicle. IMHO, the best bang for the buck and they are regulated businesses!

Ah, the King of Copy-n-Paste responses himself.
Despite what beech-boy pastes, Mike is good people, runs a reputable business, is readily available if issues or questions arise, and sells products as advertised at a competitive prices. I'm not sure what more a feller could ask for. You'll enjoy his product.
