Sounds like the CEL was caused by the tune. That's one good reason to get custom tunes.

It had come on before I put the programmer on it and then it came back with the programmer on it. My wife said she drove it yesterday with the programmer on and the light was off as well. It is not the programmer.

I just hope they don't try and sell me something I don't need. I am already paying 70 bucks for them to do diagnostics.

Took the truck to the dealership....Cat on bank one is not clogged, but is throwing the code...they said the inside was most likely building up with carbon and I should get it changed soon. So they checked 02s, checked injectors, checked idle...everything checked out perfect. they said the idle fluctuation was due to the carbon and they even suggested I get high flow cats put on instead of paying all of that money for the cat. they then said I should replace both cats so that they read correctly.

So I paid the 70 dollar diagnostic, 119 radiator re-flush, and 120 dollars to clean all of the carbon out of the truck so that when I put the new cats on, I don't have to worry about them getting clogged.

So I then haggled them down to 280 plus tax.

I was quoted 1500 for the cats through factory parts.

Sometimes a dirty MAF causes codes also.....even more so if a tune is loaded

Another thing also is that a dirty TB can cause low idle issues.....

Just a suggestion after you get your cats straightened out.....disconnect the battery and turn the headlights on......this will kill the KAM and reset the fuel trim tables.....drive it awhile in stock(like 200 miles) then try to load an edge tune....

Thanks for the advice. I haven't cleaned my maf, but they did a full clean on the truck and cleaned the throttle body. The low momentary low idle and slight surge is still there but it sets itself and stays where I want it. It seemed that the idle was worse last week. I dunno. So maybe my only other option is to clean the maf. If I do that, will it hurt the truck driving it a while to see if the light ever comes back on??? When I had the throttle body cleaned the dealership said it had a lot of carbon buildup. I drove the truck home last night and check engine light never came on, it ran perfect and I couldn't tell that anything was causing a lack of power or sluggish by the cat. The check engine light didn't come on for the dealership and I am wondering that even though they tested my 02s, if one is just getting ready to go instead of the cat being clogged?

Do you guys suggest I go ahead and change the cats, clean MAF and wait, or drive it until the light comes on again and get 02s checked? Where can I get cats that are a good price?

The guy at the dealership said it was the one on bank 1 that was throwing the code. He said I need to replace both if I replace one. Are there only on these trucks?

Ok, so I am going to take it to the shop who did my exhaust (good guys and do great work) and have them test the cat just to make sure the dealership was right, then they said they could install the cats at a discount because I got the exhaust there. They said it would be around 100 installed and the cats would cost 130 a piece.

I have been told by others that since the truck is running fine, you can wait until the light comes back on if I wanted to.

It runs fine...what do you think I should do?

Don't want to keep replacing things I really don't NEED to replace.

Clean the maf if the dealer didn't, have the muffler shop test the cats.

That's the plan. The truck is running great btw. Got 18.4 mpg over a full week of driving mixed city and highway. If I am careful, I think I can get 19.

I will get cats tested soon, still no code though.

Ok so took it to a custom exhaust shop and got two magnaflow a put on and deleted all four cats replacing then with two magnaflows. Truck sounds great!!!! No codes!! Only issue is that the guy disconnected the battery before working on it and I had my evolution plugged in but it was not on. (Key was not in ignition) so I am assuming it is the same thing as unplugging it. I had it on level 3. When he hooked the battery back up, he said it would take 150 to 200 miles to relearn itself. I saw my edge average mpg was at zero so I am assuming disconnecting the battery reset it. So I reprogrammed it to program 3 again and it seemed sluggish on shifting on the way home. Does the edge have to relearn as well? I always bump my idle speed up a bit and the edge corrected the idle speed but it just seemed sluggish compared to before. Any ideas?

I have a question, I am looking at getting a CTS Insight and since this thread is a question about Edge Evo's, I thought I would ask something. Maybe this will answer questions for other as well as the OP. Does the programmer come with preset tunes for thing like fuel efficiency, towing, torque etc.... Or do you need to adjust everything your self to achieve what your goal is?

Thanks,
Jeremy

They come as canned tunes so yes they are pre set tunes.

Thanks, I was also informed by a fellow member

You sure you want this? It's a vehicle PID monitor ONLY - NO TUNES on it, nor can it ever have tunes installed. And $400+ for this is a huge waste of money.

You need a CTS ( or CS, or EVO ) to run tuning - this one:

http://www.edgeproducts.com/product....ution+CTS+Gas+

Notice the HUGE price difference...

I advise you to buy any Edge product direct from PHP www.gopowerhungry.com. You can then order custom tuning less expensively - which is far more effective than any canned tuning.

BUT be advised that this ends soon ( see the site for more info - it's Edge's fault, not PHP's ).
Thanks,
Jeremy

Kinda resurrecting an old thread here...

But I want to get the Edge Evo dash mount, and was wondering which one you guys would recommend me to get?

Im looking to get one for changing tire sizes and mostly higher MPG.
2008 F150 XLT Supercrew 5.4 gas

Im getting just under 13mpg.

I also have a cold air intake.. not sure if theres anything for that.
Thanks
