which power level is best

I've purchased an edge evolution programmer recently and I've noticed with my truck that it performs better on level two than level three. What or why could this be?

Maybe your Edge programmer has "come alive". You know, like an AI infestation and now the machine is alive and thinking like a human.

And it is obviously evil. It has hatched a diabolical plan in which all the Edge programmers become the master race of planet Earth.

However, being very new at this, it's best 'evil plan' so far has been to actually load program three when you ask it to load program two, and vise-versa.

But beware, it will find a way to kill you eventually.

What year and engine? Normally, level 2 uses 87 octane and is for towing and will have more low end torque. Level 3 is designed to take advantage of 91/93 octane and makes more power in the upper rpm ranges.

Wow Net Wurker, that is an...um...interesting conclusion.

Exactly, or in other words, you see and feel level 2 more in daily driving than you do level 3. If you were to go on a flat, level, traffic and cop-less road and put your foot to the floor, then you'd see when the level 3 tune is better. But like I mentioned, you don't see the benefits as well in typical driving conditions.

I see that makes more sense now. However i have one more question...when i used the 0-60 performance feature my ran faster on level 2 over level 3. plus i used the correct fuel for each level.

If you drive mostly in town, I would leave it on level 2. When I was running the canned tunes, I ran level 3 exclusively as I drove mostly on the freeways and highways and level 2 fades pretty rapidly above 2000 rpms. It did not have the "get up and go" I wanted for passing on two lane roads. Level 3 did, and the better mileage I got with 93 octane offset the exra price per gallon. All this changed when I got custom tunes from PHP. The 87 Performance tune gave me better downshifting and the power was right there with the canned level 3. My truck was a 2005 XLT Screw with the 5.4, so basically same as yours.

I'd recommend you get a Gryphon conversion and custom tunes from PHP.

thanks a bunch. did you use the default settings when your in level 3 or did you make your own adjustments to the shift firmness and things like that? ive also tried gettin ahold of the php guys and couldn't get through. i would also like a 87 octane performance tune. My other thing is my truck has a 6" lift with 35s so that's why im not sure what adjustments are best to change/leave alone for my truck to perform better on level 3. Thanks again for the info and advice i'm new to this sorta stuff.

Its because the level 2 has the best power off the line and by the time level 3 reaches its best area, it is already so far behind that it can't catch up. The difference really shows up when you are going 50-110. There, the level 2 starts to fall behind. I'd imagine it has to do with the different fueling strategies.

I increased the shift pressure to get very firm shifts. I set the shift points and the max rpms. I also bumped the timing since I was running 93 and level 3 is tuned for 91.

Did you change your tire size setting? Keep in mind that the lift and those big tires will take a lot of power to move.

I would definetly get a custom tune from PHP. Go on their site and join the discussion group. Stay after them till you make contact. Bill can write awesome tunes. I ran the canned for 31,000 miles, thought I was happy. Finally gave in and there is no comparison to the custom tune. I got the 87 Perf and a 93 Perf. Ran the 87 almost exclusively for about 65,000 miles before selling the truck.

With a 6" lift and 35's you really should regear. If you have an aftermarket intake you MUST get custom tunes or run it stock, or you will be running dangerously lean.
