Question 87/93 performance/tow tune question

Recently purchased the SCT tuner from 5 star and came loaded with the tunes from Justin at VMP. I see on previous threads that you should NOT tow with the performance tune but the 87/93 performance/tow tune are one in the same, correct??? I do not have any option to choose as a separate tow tune. I only tow a jet ski that weighs about 1000lbs with the trailer. I just want to make sure that if I leave the performance/tow tune on and tow the jet ski that I do not screw up my transmission. Any help is appreciated

A full tank of gas, 4 people and their luggage for a trip could weigh as much as your jet ski. I think you would be fine.

I'm confused - do you have 5 Star or VMP tunes?

Either way, I think you can tow up to about 2500# safely with a performance tune - but you need to verify this with whoever wrote the tunes.

When I bought my SCT 5star package back in December 2011 I asked for perf/tow. I guess in hindsight it was a "hybrid" tune. Mike assured me the tunes I got (other than 91 economy) were good to tow my trucks max limits. I've towed 4000lbs with another 1500lbs of luggage and passengers without any problems on my 91 perf/tow. Very happy camper with the 91 perf/tow, it flat out rocks.

My files from 5star are labelled "perf/tow".

If in doubt give him a call

Same as cheef here. I use the 93 octane version as a DD. Around town it does not really give you squat. The big difference is on the highway or around town towing. I don't tow that much, but I see a couple of MPG gains on the highway. A lot better of a general over all tune towing or not with the hills / and mountains in my part of the world. That is why I use it as a DD. I can never reach that magic 20 MPG mark though. I just chalk it up to I am driving A 5500# TRUCK @ 75 MPH and live with it.

Mappits I can't get 20+ mpg when going 75 mph. When I cruise between 107-112 km/h which I think is around 65mph ish I can get 20+ on the highway on the 91 tune. This is per my ultragauge. Anything over 65mph or thereabouts and my mileage nosedives just like it did stock. Might have something to do with 5800lbs shaped like a brick!

You said you don't get squat around town? You mean power or mph? My power is dramatically different with 91 octane in town, love the extra torque down low and the HP above 3500. Sorry for the hijack 330!

I meant to say MPG wise. The power and torque is still good. With it being around 100 F, I am doing good to hit in the mid 14's in town. In the southern part of the state I live in (Alabama ) it is really flat. At 70 I can "hit" 20.? maybe for short periods. I have also never weighed my truck. Just got some info on weights on this forum. I think I will ease on down to the truck scales at work today at work and weigh it out.

FYI.....When using a performance tune to tow with always contact the tuner who wrote the custom tune....the performance custom tune weight in tow varies from tuner to tuner......max passenger and payload capacities are figured into the performance custom tune already.....
