Edge EVO worth the effort?

I recently picked up a 2006 SC FX4 with the off road package. Famous last words, but "I plan to keep the truck stock as much as possible". But I would like to get a little more performance out of it, mainly better fuel economy. I previously had a 2006 Mustang GT with a SCT Xcal 2. I know the difference between canned tunes and custom tunes.

But since my truck will be staying stock, will the canned tunes be enough? I stand a chance to buy a Edge EVO with mounting pod for a lil under $300. Would there be ANY advantage to this setup with the canned tunes vs. a used SCT Xcal 2 off ebay for roughly $200 and $30 custom tune from say like VMP?

Does the Edge have any flexibility of loading custom tunes on the device?

PHP is the only tuner that does custom tunes for the edge evolution...

If you already know how sct products work you might want to stay with them.....there's a lot of tuner options for tunes out there...

Custom >> Canned - always - particularly when the cost is about the same.

You can get yer Edge converted to run custom tunes from these folks: www.gopowerhungry.com.

Thanks for the info. Yeah I did some more reading and I'm really leaning towards the SCT. I can buy a locked one for cheap on fleabay and get it unlocked for the $150 gouge from SCT. But still makes it pretty inexpensive to own. I'm wondering if there is any validity from SCT's X3 3030 "Economizer" fuel saving tunes.

^ +1 on that. At around 5500 lbs GVW, MPG is almost a mute point to me as well.
