I have a 92 f150 w/ a 5.0. I put a g-force chip in it. I was wondering what would happen if I retarded the timing a few degrees because it seems to start hard when it is warm. Will it improve mileage/performance?

 

Shoulda bought my chip. Only costs a 12 pack.

removing the "chip" will both increase the mileage and performance of your truck back up to stock specs...

 

Definitely, if engine gets hot and started wasting power, ignition retard is necessary. It improves both performance as well as mileage.

 

Do you know how far I should retard the timing? Factory setting is 10 btdc.

I set it at 14 btdc. According to the book it is supposed to be 10 btdc. Have you ever owned a 92?

 

From 10 to 14 is a 4 degree advance, 4 degree retarded would be 6 btdc.
