OBD2 Splitter

I have been doing some research on this but don't have a real answer yet. I have an Edge Evolution tuner in my 2005 F-150 and I want to use a OBD2 splitter to connect my Ipad to the OBD2 port and run a program called dashcommand to monitor gauges (really it just looks cool), From what I understand 2005 F-150's use a CAN system which to me means that as long as one device is sending info and the other device does not (the dashcommand program does not send just reads info) then they should not interfere with each other and I still should be able to change programs on the Edge tuner. Does anyone know more about this and can let me know if I can do this (safely)?
