Question ABS mod for bigger tires

I'm looking to put 265's instead of the stock 235's and I was told by the clerk at Discount Tire that I'd need an ABS modification or my brakes won't work right. Is this a chip mod I can do myself or is this a dealer only thing?

Thanks,
Pete

Hi bluemesa159,

There are *thousands* of F-150 owners who have changed tire sizes with no need for ABS changes to keep their brakes functioning.

If you'd like to check with another "tire authority", just to get a second opinion from a tire industry professional, try running that by the folks at The Tire Rack and see what they say, as they generally have much better training than most of the people you find at mail-order discount tire operations. 888-541-1771 is the number.

The ABS computer is separate from the ECU (your powertrain computer), so this is not something that can be changed by any typical performance chip or "tuner" per se, that is something for an ABS programming expert.

Let us know what you find out, & good luck!
