will tuner hurt trans?

have diablosport tuner (U7151) on order for 06 screw, mainly because of tire size change, but i will of course take advantage of performance tunes. went with diablo b/c i have used one for my 06 stang 5spd and loved it. (along with CAI definately the best $$ i ever spent on that car) i have never tuned a vehicle with an auto before and i have heard in the past that messing with shift points / firmness will up the trans. is this true or just a bunch of mumbo jumbo?

thanks!

You can very easily screw up the trans if you don't know what you are doing.

I would return it and get a custom tuned Xcal3 from a reputable tuner like VMP Tuning. Load the tune, forget it, enjoy it.

When I had my trans rebuilt last year, I asked the man about the effects of a tuner (canned superchip). What he told me was:

1) Tuners raise the line pressure and harshen the shifts. That adds stress to all the hard parts and can shorten their life.

2) Tuners quicken the shifts, which saves wear and makes the clutches last longer.

Overall, he said it was a wash, and to not worry about it.

it actually has 87 and 91 octane canned performance tunes in it. in fact, you can select from 4 different CAI combos. if you choose to add a CAI. in addition, i can at any time get a reputable tuner to write me tune for this tuner as it holds up to 5 custom tunes. (Doug at Bamachips wrote me an absolutely amazing torque tune on a diablosport predator for my 06 mustang gt, but he doesnt do trucks that i know of)

from my understanding, most if not all of these custom tunes regardless if canned or not change shift points and firmness. my question is, will the tunes that tuners write be hard on the trans?

i wasnt planning on modifying the trans shift points and firmness myself, just want to make that clear.

BTW Barrett, thanks for the sneak preview. i just ordered 35inch tires on those same rims you got for my black screw, i have been trying to imagine what the combo will look like. now im gonna be pulling this post up to stare at your truck until my rims and tires get here.....and now im wishing i had the $$ to do more than just the 2.5 leveling kit, as your truck with that lift and tires with those fender flares looks bada$$! maybe next tax season i can get the lift to go with the tires.....

The fact you aren't playing with it yourself makes a big difference, I think thats what everyone took it as

no sir. i plan on plugging it in and following the prompts to install the canned tune. the only perimeters i will be adjusting is the tire size.

i'm running the predator on my '07, only had it on for under 10K but so far so good. Had an 87 and 93 performance tune done to go with my CAI at a svt performance shop locally.

i have felt the odd 'harsh shift' when climbing a hill at high speeds, but only happened a few times and tranny feels great overall, i just hit 100K km / 60K miles. Plus I got a warranty until 160K km, and was told by another member here predator leaves no watermark on your tranny to ruin warranty work (he had his truck in for tranny work)
