Question Mike, flip chip safe on Cali 91 octane?

Mike,
Got my chip from you last week but have yet to install it. I'm sure you've heard that Southern Cali 92 octane is downgrading to 91. Is the "performance" program on Superchips safe to run on 91?

Thanks,
Ron Blakely

Hi Ron,

Excellent question, thanks!

So far we haven't seen any problems, as we're actually tuning for 90+ octane, meaning 91 or higher. So as long as the actual *energy content* is there in that 91 octane fuel, you should be just fine. Just like 92 octane, there are good and poor quality 91 octane fuels, too. In Southern California, Chevron seems to be doing a good job, so that is what I would try first, if you find that your current brand results in detonaiton after installing the Superchip.

If you find that you have any problems (which would be detonation, or "pinging") running on Chevron's 91 octane out there (or if you can't get Chevron in your area, perhaps, and whatever you have access to just isn't good enough quality), just let us know via phone or email and we'll be happy to make any program adjustments as needed for that 91 octane fuel.
