Finally ordered my tuner ...

So .. got all my maggie parts coming in the next week or so, and I decided to get myself a tuner as well. Called Mike at 5star (after reading some rave reviews on here) and it was a pleasant experience. Chatted with him a while about what I want to do .. and now the X3 is in the mail. So .. for my question. I'm thinking about the 87 economy (daily driving), 87 tow (pull a house trailer) and 89 performance (for fun) ... what do you guys think? Seems pretty straight forward, only thing I was kicking around was maybe bumping the 2 87s to 89 just to get a little more kick with daily booting around, and towing. What are you guys running? and what would you change if you could? Thanks

I would not change them all to 89 - have at least one 87 tune. I would recommend 2 87's - either economy or performance and a tow - and one 91 or 93 performance, depending on what octane is available where you are.

I have 87,89,91 always available. Anyone know if there is a mpg increase in an economy tune of 89 vs 87? And would there be a difference in mpg in the 87 economy vs 87 perf? Gobba ask mike these same questions but thought I would look for ideas here as well.

Honestly the performance tunes I've had are as about as good as the economy ones......

I would just go with performance tunes and a tow tune

If you are concerned about economy, stick with 87 for your everyday and towing tunes - the additional expense of higher octane does not give you a payback. 89 isn't even worth talking about, but if you want to play, a 91 tune would make sense.

Got my custom tunes, they are for after my exhaust is done (long tubes, hi flows, x pipe, chambered mufflers) but I have not had them installed yet. Any harm in loading the tune before I have the exhaust completed?
