Speed Limiter?
Speed Limiter?
Does a Superchip take out the speed limiter... I havent done much over 85 in my truck and dont know what the limiter is set at but I assume it is 100... Am I correct on that?
Thanks
Thanks
From what I understand the Superchip does remove the speed limiter on most of our trucks. If I remember correctly the speed limiter is set somewhere between 98 and 108mph. I could swear that my truck shut down at 95, or 96mph. I may not have seen the speed-o at the exact time it shut down.
It was the relatively low speed that it shut down that started my search for a product that would at least raise the limit by 10mph. I haven't pinned the speed-o yet but I have gone beyond where it had shut down before the Superchip.
In most cases there is no need to go beyond where the speed limiter shuts you down. Most cases. I just don't want this thing to shut down when it's not like most cases.
This is my opinion. I'm sure you will get an expert to explain soon.

Hi tlapan93,
Wittom gave a very good answer, he's right on the money. The Superchip removes the top speed limiter in the vast majority of these vehicles.
The normal ts limiter setting for your vehicle is 98 mph, very close to the 100 mph figure you mentioned. There can be a bit of range to this, the ts limiter can be anywhere from 98 to 108 mph, and every once in a great while, we'll see one that shuts down at just 95 mph. Most of them are right at 98 mph, which is why most people say 100 mph, as that's close enough.
One thing to be careful of in the 1998 & earlier vehicles is that the ts limiter in those is a complete fuel shut-off, so when you hit it at about 100 mph, it's almost like hitting the brakes, and it can surprise you the first time if you're not prepared for it. Then as we get into the latest vehicles, they start having a bit softer approach that is not quite so abrupt.
So if you do test your ts limiter before installing the Superchip, just be aware and be ready for that fuel shut-off, so it doesn't surprise you.
If you'd like to go over any other details about the Superchip, please feel free to give us a call or shoot us an email, we're happy to help.
